Description: | |||||
Gilead is tall and good-looking with a muscular atheltic build. He has been mistaken for having had enhacements done, but his physique is natural and the result of heredity and long hours of training. | |||||
BACKGROUND | |||||
Gilead is the son of the well-known explorer Hadrian of Tallon. His father married into the wealthy family of Elias the Developer. Elias is the head of the Guild that surveys and develops land for the city. This is a very lucrative position and though Gilead has no direct control over the family's fortune, he is always well-supplied with whatever he needs. When Gilead was younger, he would often accompany his father on expeditions. He learned many valuable skills during this period and even was entrusted with mapping one of the Shattered Isles. Unfortunately, his father disappeared five years ago on a long exploration of the lands beyond the Great Kraken Lakes. There has been no word since then and the worst os feared. Gilead was a student at the Tallon Military Academy. It is a sort of ROTC program, combined with the liberal arts studies a gentleman is expected to learn. He was a good student and excels in athletics. He won the Archon's Medal at the Founders Day Games. He is proud of this accomplishment and wears the medal as part of his daily routine. Gilead spent much of his time at the Academy, which is located in the Hall of Art, or having a good time with his friends. In between semester, he is usually working for his grandfather. His mother died in childbirth, and though his grandfather never really approved of the adventurous Hadrian, Gilead is all he has left of his daughter Ellina. His grandfather Elias has decided that his family should ally themselves with Mistress Novya, a powerful Master and one of the favorites for next Archon. This clashes with Gilead's admiration of General Hannon, the other prime candidate. Since the current Archon is old and in poor health, this could become important in the near future. Gilead led a very successful and popular expedition into the Wilds. The voyage discovered many new lands and peoples, as well as resulted in a reuinion with his lost father. This did not go well, since Hadrian refused to return with Gilead. In his years away from Tallon, Hadrian developed a socially unnaceptable attachment for the feline beast Mranda, mother of Gilead's fellow-adventurer Persia. Because Mranda would not return to Tallon for other reasons unstated, Hdarian decided to remain in the Wilds. In the war for the Celestial City, Gilead enlisted. Although he performed many amzingly heroic deeds, including striking down the Most High and his family, he was continually frustrated about being left out of any planning. He became a liability, due to the interest the enemy showed in revenging themselves upon him. Indeed, for a while, it became very dangerous to be a friend of Gilead, since Celestial City plots often wound up injuring his friends. Eventually he realized that any action would have to be initiated by himself. He organized and led a secret raid upon the Celestial City. He discovered during the course of the mission, that he and others were likely aided and manipulated from behind the scenes. War between mind readers requires much secrecy and deniabiliity. Nevertheless, the mission was an astounding success. The Most High was slain and the City was crashed into the Jungles of Nunavut. During this spectacular climax, Gilead made an undefined deal with the vestigal image of a Demon King. What effect this deal will have remains to be seen. |

PERSONALITY | |||||
Gilead is a likeable young man who takes his responsibilities seriously. Unlike manny of his class, he sees his wealth as coming with a code of behavior which includes protecting those weaker than himself. It is probable that this attitude comes from his father, since Elias is known to be rather condescending to the lower classes. Gilead also has an adventurous streak. He sought to one day emulate the accomplishments of his father. The reality of his father's fate, and relationship with a feline beast, combined with Hadrian's apparently diminished attachment to Gilead's dead mother, has caused Gilead to harbor resentment for his sire. This is reflected in a now-awkward working relationship with Persia. |
