Titan

History: Much of the History of Titan is recorded elsewhere in the history. Titan was first settled in 2129 by people who wished to put the war with earth behind them. Spurning the mother planet, they set out to colonize further from the sun than any had yet dared. They applied for and were granted a charter to develop the planet. In time, the stories they told to their children of the cruel oppressions of Earthgov grew larger and more elaborate. The next generation grew up with a contempt for "earthworms". Indeed, life on Titan was so harsh and difficult with little to no sunlight, that they began to hold themselves superior to the rest of the sunward colonials.
It was this attitude that led them to sympathize with the Skywalkers. The Skywalkers were a political/terrorist organization dedicated to the downfall of Earhtgov. Some of the wealthier and more zealous Titanians secretly gave asylum to Skywalkers, even though their actions were criminal even within the CCB. Many wealthy people with axes to grind also contributed to the Skywalker cause. The Skywalkers liked the Titanian attitude, and more and more of their operatives and sympathizers began to settle there. Many Titanians were greatly outraged at Earthgov's public execution of four Skywalker spies in 2136. In 2140, the Promethean Party won control of the government. This party was merely a front for the Skywalkers who won by intimidation and strong-arm tactics. They were also helped by a huge supply of capitol donated by other Earthgov-haters. The Prometheans began to subvert the resources of Titan toward funding Skywalker activities farther sunward. The CCB suspected the Promethean/Skywalker connection, but did not have any solid proof.
Ironically, as disagreeable as the Titanians were becoming, they were the colony most responsible for the survival of humanity after the loss of earth. It was on Titan that Synthfood was invented. With to little sunlight to drive any hydroponic farming, Titanian scientist found a way to cheaply and economicall produce mass amounts of a food substitute called synth-food. Although not a complete food replacement, it was nourishing enough to vastly reduce the need for natural food. Titan did not publish their methods, but licensed food-factories on all the major colonies. Over the decaes, this made Titan unbelievably wealthy. This only served to increase their self image of superiority.
When Earth was destroyed by virus in 2145, Titan was the only colony which refused to accept any refugees whatsoever. This made them very unpopular with the colonies struggling to absorb the 30 million survivors. Relations between Titan and the others deteriorated rapidly. Titan began to treat the entire outer solar system as their property, harrassing ships far beyond the inner solar system.
In 2175, proof was finally found of the existance of Skywalker military bases on Titan. A CCB operative named Reanne Stellar infiltrated the Promethean party and transmitted the location of the Bases to the CCB. This action led to the secession of Titan as described in the history. It was also Stellar who discovered and broadcst the formulas for synthfood, breaking the Titanian monopoly on food production. (Side note: the greening of Mars had already weakened the synthfood industry. It is believed by some more cynical historians that it was the liberation of the colonies from the Titanian stranglehold on synthfood, more than the proof of Skywalker bases, that prompted the CCB to get off its collective butt and do something about Titan.)
Once Titan was interdicted, the people began to panic. Titan depended on the inner colonies for some things they could not reproduce themselves, some vitamins and many pharmaceuticals. The Promethean party remained in control by focusing their economy and society almost entirely along military lines. Survival was difficult, but possible with hard work, black market trading and not a little suffering. Eventually, trade restrictions relaxed and Titan once again began to trade openly. The events which led to the Titan Wars have been detailed in the history. Now Titan is fenced in and no ships enter or leave. The planet has ceased to communicate with the rest of the Colonies. What goes on beneath their murky impenetrable atmosphere is anybody's guess.
