Please read any new messages on this thread, but post any replies to Market Circle Altogether

It is still the middle of the night. The Market Circle is a large open court where several main streets meet. The cobbles of the circle are multicolored and form a patterned mosaic. There are several people here, but the main activity seems to be an ox-drawn wagon being loaded with bundles. It is in front of a permanent structure owned by Merchant Hamilton (The name is clearly inscribed over the door for those who can read. Hamilton is wealthy enough to afford a small warehouse adjacent to the Market. The goods are being loaded from the warehouse.
Besides the teamsters, you can see a couple dozen people. Someone is working on a booth, another person is arranging colorful jewelry made from seashells, there is a prostitute (you assume) walking through the Circle, There is also Brassman, the animate who guards the city gates (when they are open), who appears to be strolling about and generally inspecting things.

The caravan looks nearly loaded and the wagon boss (a surly, contentious-looking fellow) is inspecting straps and harness. The workers are standing nearby and adjusting where he directs.

Anyone who makes a PER roll by 5 (honor system here; If you don't make it, don't react to it.) can see a recumbent figure apparently sleeping in an alcove.

A few more people are entering. A good-looking young woman in black leather who has a large companion. Her companion has a boyish face, and has a thick waist, but looks muscular. From a different direction a young man casually strolls in, his otherwise handsome features tempered by a few scars.

The oxcart in the description is the caravan of Merchant Hamilton, your father. It is smaller than you would have expected. It hardly seems profitable to send it to Karkul. Adala yes, Karkul, not really. Not unless Vance knows something you don't.
The caravan boss is named Karp. He is probably going to drive a cart this size by himself. Vance would probably use a deezel with a howdah for protection. Karp is gruff, but has known you since you were a young teenager. He can be fooled, but it takes some fast talking. He will probably want to discuss any plan changes (especially destination) with Vance or even Hamilton. He doesn't want to upset his bosses.

"Hey Mr. Karp, how are things going? I'm sure you heard the news that my father wants to go to Adala instead of Karkul. No money in Karkul for this wagon you know. So Since we will be going to Adala, I brought along some special security [pointing to Rath] and we are ready to head out! Dad is particullarly anxious to get this one going because he wants to invest the extra profits he'll get back into the business. By the way, he said to tell you you and the team will get "X" extra because of the short notice on the change in destination. Oh, and I'm supposed to pick up a few extra people for security so do you know anyone or should I start looking around?"
All this is said in a running patter while checking inventory and the preparation. I am trying to keep him so busy keeping up with me that he won't be listening to what I'm saying.

Karp looks a little put out. "Wait now--", he begins. "But--" he tries, but Beka's running monologue makes it difficult to interrupt. Finally he manages to get in a word.
"I don't know about any change in destination, and yer Father may have changed things, 'tis true. But I got me orders from Merchant Vance. He's in charge o' this wagon, and I'm thinkin' this is one of yer little tricks. Yer pop got awful mad last time you pulled somethin' like this. You want ta change the route, you get Vance ta come out here an' tell me so."
He looks annoyed, but not angry. He mops his brow with a dirty rag and indicates that the caravan is ready to go.
"If'n ya ask me, you should run along home and don't meddle with this stuff. Don't make me go get yer old man."

He make towards the Merchant Hall, pauses a moment and turns. "By the way Miss, I'd be careful the way I talk about Vance. He's harder than you think." Boss Karp leaves the Circle. The teamsters stand about in general confusion.

I extend my hand as I also rise and stand next to the warrior.

The young man appears a bit rough around the edges, a goatee shows about his mouth but appears to be hard grown there. Blue eyes under a mop of thick dark hair and an aristocratic nose highlight his looks. He is a bit thin but healthy and moves with a grace that sets him apart from many of the striving lower classes you have seen around the city. He wears an odd collection of mismatched leather and metal armor bits under an oiled cloak with its hood thrown back and carries a small havasac and a number of knives.

Only adepts bear lumina upon their persons. It isn't really a law, just custom. But only adepts can make lumina shine. Looking about the Marketplace you can see there are the occasional lumina lamps. These are cheaper crystals (flawed in shape somehow), that are kept lit by adept limners under the direction of the city architect. As you look about you can see one of them, probably a student at the Hall of Art. He is a young man who travels from lamp to lamp. As he passes, they brighten perceptibly.
The other thing you notice is a manikin. He is a man formed entirely of brass, his main body a cylinder. He has a red cape, helmet and a sheathed sword. He is approaching the wagon that you all are so hurriedly loading.

A couple of things become obvious now that Karp has gone.
1. This cart is small and underloaded as it is.
2. Although the goods would fetch a higher price in Adala, the amount hardly seems worth the effort.
3. You have keys to the warehouse
4. Any new materials loaded would have to be very carefully wrapped before the next rain.
5. If an adept is with you, you might be able to transport Spirit Cloth, which would fetch a very high price indeed
6. Transporting spirit cloth would mean awakening Master Gonnik, who enhances it for your father, so that he can transfer the ley lines to Nuyok.
7. You have about 10 gold on you, not enough to pay guards and guides. You will need to go get more cash, or pay them with a share at the end of the trip.
8. No one here is a qualified guide (You have AK: Caravan routes, but not tracking, survival, etc.), but guides may be found at the Merchant Hall, the Promethean Docks or the fort on the other side of the inlet that lies at the trailhead of the lizard road. Guides get progressively more expensive in the order of the locaions listed, but the Merchant Hall seems like a bad idea. (Too much offical attention.)
9. Whatever you do, you will have to act fast. Karp will no be gone for more than 20-30 minutes at most.

Points 5&6 are there for thought only. hey are not required to make the trip worthwhile.

"Hello Brassman, nice to see you tonight." to Brassman
"Please even out those loads!" to the 'security'.
Back to Brassman, "Well, you never know what kind of weather that you will run into on a caravan! You know we are getting ready so..., will you hand me that rope?, Thanks..., so we need to ve ready for all kinds of trouble! Too bad we';re not taking you with us! We know we'd be safe! Anyway, pass me that 'd' ring..., we need to tie these much ..., More even please!!!, tighter.
I am directing Brassman all over as I run back and forth tying off ropes and directing the "boys"

"That's all very well, Miss," says Brassman, as he begins to give a hand, "but the night here in town is still no weather for a cloak. This young scoundrel fellow-me-lad here could die of heat stroke, and you sah, Oh begging your pardon; didn't see the crystal at first. Half a tick here. You're Bane's lad, wot? How is the old boy, eh?"
His brassy stare is unreadable.

OOC: Ahhh! He would have to recognize me ; )

I'm assuming no "alarm" would have reached the Brassman? Nuyok got here quick, but would there be some other sort of communications that would have reached him? If not, Nuyok will attempt to get close and speak in a low voice to the Brassman, and say "To be honest, Master Bane is not well, his enemies are out in force this evening, and I am looking out for his interests."

Roll if necessary:

Momentarily distracted from Handle, Brassman turns to Nuyok again. "I say, sah. That's jolly bad, wot? You had best take care then." He turns to leave, but just before actually stepping away he turns back. "Begging your pardon, my good man, but if Judge Bane's enemies are out in force, as you say, then why are you loading a cart?"
His perpetually good-natured expression again belies what might be passing through his mind.

.oO(This chi.. uh lady, may have a mouthlike a runaway golem but maybe she could be useful)

"Just got here boss, have all me stuff boss."

I move around to the side of the wagon out of Brassman's view.

I then begin to load the wagon.

On the sly

I move around where I can't be seen while Brassman is distracted.

Trying to do it swiftly, I remove my cloak and roll it into a bundle and tie it off to hang from some built in straps like a day pack on my back.

Being a practiced means of ditching my things while on the run so I can hopefully go and get them later and not have them taken from me if I am caught, on the sly while taking off and rolling up my cloak, I remove most all my weapons and tools under it, trying to not let them be noticed, and roll them into it.
Use Slieght of Hand, 13-, and Concealment 14-
and if needed Dex roll, 13-

Once done I start to work in earnest.

Brassman's attention

The manikin is distracted by Beka long enough for you to slip behind the wagon and quickly ditch clothing. Your sleight of hand allows you to do this without being seen and your concealment allows you to dicth the weapons, also apparetly without being seen. (At least, if he does see what you are doing, he does not mention it). However, this does absolutely nothing to deter Brassman's curiosity.
The brass guard comes around to the other side of the cart and stares at you frankly. "That was a pretty quick piece of work there my boy. Any reason you'd duff it and roll the cloak so quickly? A chap with a suspicious turn of mind would think you had something to hide, wot?"

"My good Brassman, I just got here and am about to start work. I didn't need to remove my cloak and things till now."

I continue loading the wagon.

"Thank you for your diligent eye though."
