Nuyok and Cas take off together towards the barracks that are being used as an infirmary. You are met there by a man who identifies himself as Lt. Stout. He is indeed a heavyset fellow, with a perpetually worried look. Or maybe he's perpetually annoyed, or perpetually constipated. Anyway he doesn't look very content.
After a brief introduction, he takes you inside. There are five patients here.
"The fort normally has a standing garrison of fifty. We lost about fifteen to the reavers and five more as straight casualties. These five are too wounded to fight. (Quick math shows you that you are twenty five soldiers to twenty riven, plus chimeras and reavers. To your surprise Nuyok, Cas does this calculation almost instantly.
Stout looks gratefully at the man he is calling Healer Nuyok. "What skills do you have, Master? We have a burn case, that woman has lost an eye, Those two suffered broken bones when the wall collapsed, and the young otter over there took an arrow to the gut, probably pierced the peritoneum. Smells like the colon is punctured. What can you do?"

Some notes on the night map. The proposed lantern spots are numbered counterclockwise, starting at upper left. There are nine. There are also nine towers, numbered in a similar direction. There are four ballistas numbered this way as well. The barracks/infirmary has been marked, and there is a lantern at the end of the dock, to light the harbor.

Cas is going to take this as an opportunity to learn. As it is part of her quirks, she has felt very uneducated lately. She will not speak and only carefully observe facial expressions and actions. Should Nuyok or Mr. Stout ask her to do something she will do it unless it involves leaving the room.

OOC: What time of day is it? Are those lanterns in place because it is already approaching night?

"Let me take a look over everyone here, to see what can be done. I will need to take care of a matter briefly before healing, but hopefully I can help out some before any attack occurs this evening."

Nuyok will use Spirit Sense (13-) and PS: Healer (13-) (and Paramedics (8-) complementary) to do a brief examination of the wounded.

This will take a good twenty minutes or so to do a thorough job.
Rolls Spirit Sense-13, Healer-13, Paramedics Comp-8 = Amount roll made by

BURN: 14,7 ,11 = 4
This one you can help. You can mend the burned flesh as per normal healing rules.

EYE: 6,8,10 = 12
Good observation. The eye can be regrown. You can heal the patient normally. If she is healed to full, the eye will eventually re-grow.

BROKEN LEG: 14,13,9 = -1
This is a hard one to see. You can try, but the bone is pretty shattered.

BROKEN ARM AND SCAPULA: 7,13,9 = 6
Much easier. These are simple fractures.

ARROW TO GUT: 11,12,9 = 3
Difficult. The otter is currently dying and will be gone before dawn. If you choose to heal him, you must balance the time you take with the time he has. If you take too long, he could die. If you go to quickly, you could miss things (flub your roll)

In terms of healing damage, since you are not professionally trained (i.e. don't have a slew of 'ologies'), your healing is best for generic damage: basic tissue repair. The otter has an infection, in which you have no specific training.

This post is visibility limited. make your response to the parent thread, unless you havea game mechanic question.

Night has just fallen. The lantern positions are proposed, not yet deployed, except for the one at the end of the dock.

Time of Attack?

OOC: Do we know when we an attack is anticipated, based on past activity?

To Cas, Nuyok quietly says "Things look worse here than I expected, the otter will die soon without attention. I should probably tend to the otter, then rest a bit, and during that time, go to the inn and investigate. In the meantime, perhaps you could try to find Handle, and see about an investigation of the stranger's quarters, including for anything that may be hidden beneath or behind wood panels, etc. I suspect Handle has some skills in this area, and perhaps you would be able to help?"

Provided the time seems available and the Cas thinks this plan will work, Nuyok will quietly tell the doctor that the worst victim appears to be the otter, and Nuyok should probably treat him soon and seek any help the doctor could provide (perhaps the doctor can help on the paramedics side or offering knowledge, especially as to the infection and as to the nonhuman nature?), then rest a bit to see what's going on as far as another attack. Then Nuyok would approach the young otter, trying not to startle, and let him know he will try his best to heal him.

PS: Healer, 13- (-4 for 8D6, +3 for 1hour of time), thus 12- (mods for nonhuman? doctor knowledge?)

OOC: No problem. Unless something else comes up, Nuyok's plan afterward is to rest a few moments, check on what's going on at the wall, and head to the inn to check on what's going on with the stranger and the hostess with the mostest ; ) Depending on the developments, he'd check out the stranger from afar (perhaps ask Cori who it is there) with Spirit Sense, PER, etc., and/or heal the next worst damaged / capable fighter if there doesn't appear to be an attack soon, e.g., Spirit Sense out from the wall doesn't show reavers frolicking about : )

16 on the old spirit sense there. There is a vague weak blur indicating the enhanced wall, but it is very sporadic.

Healing the Otter

Nuyok, this is the most difficult healing you have yet attempted. Healing a beast or riven is difficult, since Judge Bane probably only taught you on humans.
After about an hour of work, during which your concentration is riveted on you patient, you feel confident that you have repaired the tissue damage.
Your spirit sight can see some infection, but the otter will have to fight that off naturally, or with the help of the doctor. Nevertheless, he is out of critical danger.

.oO(Phew, glad that worked. Can't heal more right not though, can't be too tired if we're attacked.)

After resting a few moments, Nuyok intends to head to the inn (tells the doctor he'll be back soon) unless something arises in the meantime, and keeping an eye out toward the wall.

OOC: Presumably Nuyok may be a bit ahead, given the hour of healing, so I figure you'll pick him up when the time comes.

Cas nods, "I'll be back." Cas looks to the Dr. "I entrust Master Nuyok with your life. Please honor the trust of this noble fox." Cas is trying to sound as professional as she can their.

She will now run full speed to the Inn, throw upon the door and cry out Handle's name before looking in. Of course, if she sees Handle it is another story altogether.

Cra-CRASH!

Cas, you headed back to the infirmary. When you got there, you could see that Nuyok was deep in critical concentraion on his patient, an otter soldier. Not wishing to risk the outcome of his ministraions, you waited until he was finished, about 45 minutes. (This gets everyone up to the same time, fortunately.)
Nuyok has bid farewell to the Doctor and is headed for the door. Just as Nuyok and Cas are about to exchange greetings, they hear a hear a terrific CRA-CRASH!!! from the front gate. The sound is so loud and violent that you wonder the wall has not been breached. There is a spreading fire on the gatehouse roof and you can just barely destinguish tiny figures fighting on top.

They are people fighting with swords as far as you can see. They are small because of distance. Nuyok, you can't tell much more with spirit sight.

"Cas, do you know if any of our caravan is at the gatehouse or what might be going on? Oh, and how'd it go with Handle?"

What other activity is going on in the Fort? Others rushing to aid the gatehouse guards? What appears to have caused the crashing noise and fire?

"Since it seems we have people heading to the gate, that we should as well, but cautiously."

Presumably with Cas (unless Cas has a better idea : ) ), Nuyok intends to head to the gate at a slight jog, keeping an eye out around for danger and for people he'd recognize.

Mst of the fort interior seems quiet. You would supposed that since they are undermanned, the primary force is already deployed on the wall. You cannot see the source of the fire, but it seems to be confined to the roof of the gate. There is a lot of rushing along the wall, but you cannot make out any detail through the rain and dark and distance.
Cripes! The boss is coming!
