The party will need much rest and recuperation before they are able to leave Fort Lizard.
Please feel free to invest your time however you see fit, though those who were seriously wonded will need to spend most of it in rest.
Besides Celeste's recovery, some of the things that are discovered over the next few days which can be topics for interaction:

Father Jeo, the priest to whom the Sanctuary belongs, is appointed Master pro tem, though he is in fact only an adept. The characters learn of how Father Jeo and two soldiers travelled the inlet from here to Tallon to raise the alarm and gather reinforcements. They were attacked by riven on their journey, but survived in time to complete their mission.

Said reinforcements are made up of thirty-five soldiers. An adept well-experienced in turning reavers (Master Ko) had also been sent, but he was riven when the boat foundered.

Neither Ko nor Able is found.

The paddleboat with reinforcements was stopped by the actions of an aquatic riven. A chain and anchor had been wedged into the rocky floor of the inlet. As the paddleboat passed, the other end of the chain was passed up into the paddle. The boat was damaged but can be easily repaired in a week.

Doom and Shado both survived the night of Ash's death.

More to come...

Feel free to ask questions on topics not covered, but please phrase them as in-character dialogue to NPCs.

In between recovering, Rath will try to find some time to talk to Mako,

"What happened to the rest of the Riven band? I mean...did you get them
all? How much fighting was left once...well, did Master Ash take the
fight out of them?" Rath still has trouble saying Master in front of
Ash, while he is able to, it still comes out sounding like "Scumbucket

I collect Ricco's things while he is paralyzed and hold onto them until he asks for them. I bring him soup, water, and copious amounts of berry ale to keep up his strength. I make quiet a mess until I manage to find a way to get liquids into him without choking him.

When we are alone, I quietly tell him of the events he was unable to witness. I sadly tell him of Able's unknown fate, Houma's extermination, the skinny woman's killing, and the battle on the catwalk. I killed three people that day and helped kill a fourth. It bothers me. Talking to a captive raccoon audience helps a little.

It hurts me to see him like this. It must be driving the little guy crazy... Taking care of Ricco has another positive side effect. It keeps me away from the Fort's inhabitants. Eventhough I am gypsy Vulpine, I have never liked telling lies. Everytime we tell the lies about Ash, we do an injustice to his victims. Beka made the right choice, but I am not going to spread the lies if it can be avoided.

"Well, I have already thought much about how to tell the story and yet not tell the story," Cas says with a thoughtful smile. "The simple solution is to create a villian for the story. Master Ash defeated Pisa Hoot, the villian who wished to destroy Fort Lizard with his army of riven and reavers. I'm still not sure if I will tell this story more than once. I did promise to tell it so I may tell the tale to us in private. I hate to break my word."

Riccoco recovers slowly, eventually telling the story of the battle between Handle, Riccoco, and Master Ash. When he can finally stand he requests aid down to the Harbor.

"The story be done and over, Faliol. One time, ol' Riccoco thought his place be at Fort Lizard with Mako an' the other Beasts. They seem equal here. In time, all truths be known. The Lizard be no different. Riccoco goes on to Adala."

OOG I make it a habit not to read privilidged information. Blame it on my Pentium 2, 233mghz brain. If I read posts that Faliol did not participate in, six months from now, (when we have 12, 000 posts to keep up with!) someone will bring up an event and I will not be able to remember if I actually participated or if I just read about it. This has come back to haunt me in past PBeM games.... There is a side benefit to my outdated brain. You guys can tell me Martians landed, paralyzed Ricco and aged Handle. Unless I talk to Handle, how will I ever know the truth? : )

Talking with Mako.

Mako listens to your questions and then looks about at the people nearby.

"Rath, let's go into my office." You know something is up, when the Commander uses your real name.
Once in his office, he bids you to close the door. He sits down at his desk, and pulls out a small bottle from the bottom drawer. He looks at it a moment. The moment lengthens. He licks his lips thoughtfully, and then suddenly puts it back in.

He looks up, as if suddenly remembering you are there. "Rath, we don't ask a lot of questions about people's pasts here at the Lizard. So I'm not going to ask you to say more than you want. But I've talked with Doom, some of your party, and of course the late Master. I have a pretty good idea why you went out into the jungle yesterday."

Was it only yesterday?

"Those suspicions were confirmed last night. During the fight... well let's just say you need to tuck your shirt in a little more when you go all berserk like that. Yes, let's just say that and no more."
He bids you take a seat.
"I have a suspicion as to why Rags wears all that cloth and leather in this heat, but I won't go any further in that direction either."
He pauses, and then gets back on topic. "The riven who attacked the fort. Hmmm. Well, it's hard to tell. No one could see the attack and Master Ash's death at the same time, but so we don't know if there was any immediate reaction. They never did attack the walls. They had a deezel-load of chimeras, though. I know some of them were wounded, but we haven't found any riven bodies outside the walls, just the chimeras."

The next paragraph is contingent upon Rath telling him what he saw and heard among the riven. If Rath does not volunteer the information, it isn't said.
From what you've told me and what Shado overheard, I think they were hoping for a breach and stood ready to catch up people with those nets you mentioned and hold them for the reavers. They weren't supposed to actually attack, and that's why Houma got so upset at that little splinter group that jumped the plan."

"You're looking pretty thoughtful there. What's on your mind, Big Fella?"

Mako leans back and rubs his chin. "In my experience, the vast majority of riven lose the ability to play nice with others. Ash did somehing to them to make them so loyal. I don't think Houma could have ordered them around if he hadn't.
"They can't live at the fort. Even if I was OK with that, and I'm not, they'd have my command for a stunt like that. It would hinder trade, make people nervous, that sort of thing.
"The Archon keeps talking about making a riven colony farm near the city, but the last effort got screwed over by a gator attack. If the riven were more capable of defending themselves, it might be possible.
"They could try Adala. Adala does have a riven colony, but I've seen it. I don't think you'd like it.
"If someone could gather them together and lead them into more productive activities, I'd like that. Otherwise, they'll probably fall back to banditry, and then we'd have to hunt them down.
"Not a good situation..."

Since the tracking failed, but the survival worked, I am assuming the most likely outcome would be Tusk finding you.

It is late and you are about to return to the fort. The jungle seems much less dangerous since most of the nasties have been filled or driven off. You have been tramping about all day with no clear sign.

As you return to the road, you hear a voice from the foliage, "Rath. Don't move a muthle. What are you doing here?"

actually. Look a lot of things happened and neither of us really knows
why or how, but there is a problem that needs to be taken care of. There
are a lot of Riven around here, without a lot going for them. Chances
are they are going to have to resort to stealing and attacking caravans
just to survive. This is going to bring soldiers to stop the looting.
All this can lead to is more killing, there's been enough of that. I

Tusk listens as you outline your idea. He will also ask about what happened at the fort. The following is assuming you tell him all. His speech is difficult (and damp) to understand.

"I've heard of thutch platheth. Uthually, they are brigand campth. Any who found uth would thertainly athume ath mutch.
"We'd need to have an underthtanding with the fort. We lack a lot of bathic thupplieth and toolth. We'd need a way to protect ourthelveth from reaverth and chimerath and the like. Maybe we could act ath thcoutth or thomething.
"I'll level with you Rath. There are only thix of uth left. Four of uth are from the Fort, the other two are from caravanth unlucky enough to meet Ath'th reaverth. I probably have the motht military exthperienthe, but I can't lead thounding like thith. Ethpethially if we want to attract other homeleth riven.

Tusk considers this a long while. Finally, he nods his head then calls to the bushes. "Come on out. I believe him."
Out of the bushes steps a riven human. He is male and has lemon yellow skin that even looks a little like lemon rind. His hair is leafy and green and grows straight upward.
"Rath, thith ith Twitht. He'th the only one I could find after the night of the raid. If you can thail your plan patht the Commander, we can go thearcthing for the otherth. It'th altho pothible that there are other riven out thith way. Thothe reaverth hung around a whole week, you know."

"Mako can we talk? I have found a couple of the Riven and they like my idea. I
propose we work out some sort of deal. We need to be able to buy supplies and
tools from the fort. The only thing I can think of is using us as advance
scouts and maybe even guards. We might be able to farm, but I don't know a lot
about that. Since right now, I'm the least...odd looking, I'll be the one to
come to town for the supplies. This will also keep all of Riven out there from
becoming bandits. We are going to need an advanced on some tools to get or fort
together. We'lll need a place for the others to flock to. How does it sound so

Mako looks thoughtful.
"I like your plan so far," he says, "But it will take a lot of work, and we can't be too open about it. I'll let my senior officers know what's going on, but the less the rank and file know, the better for all. Maybe once your... irregulars have proven themselves useful, we can operate a bit more openly.
"Hmm... Sgt Scratch, the Quartermaster; Lt. Books certainly. I'll probably have to field promote Doom to full sergeant. I heard he was pretty effective at the gate. That should do it.
"Rely on Scratch for supplies, Books for logistics and Doom for access to the fort."
He notices your (ten-year-old) brow furrow at "Logistics".
"Talk to Books when you want something done or want to know what's going on. Come to me if it's important, certainly at the beginning, but if you want advice on where to set up, how to handle command, or need to make a report, Books is your man.
"I would suggest setting up along the Adala road. Our group is up and down the road to Tallon fairly regularly. It's been years since Adala bothered to come out this way, though."

First I go back and tell Tusk:

"Okay I've made a deal with Mako. We're gonna set up our town on the road to Adala. It will kind of be our job to keep that road clear. Not all the way I imagine, but as we get bigger and more of us need jobs we can expand out. Maybe when people see how well this is working out between us and Fort Lizard, we can start trade with Adala too. I'm supposed to talk to a guy named Books so he can tell us how to get started and get us some supplies and things. Have you gathered any of the others?"

Then I go to find Books, I make sure Mako talks to him first so I'm not the one bringing all this up.

"Hi...Um, I need to start a town and I have no idea how to go about it. I mean I don't know where to start or anything."

I was awfully worried about you.

I hate the misinformation we are telling about Ash but I don't want anything to happen to any of the people I have come to care deeply about, you included! I hope you understand, I'm not doing it to lessen any of your accomplishments, I just know what kind of "justice" will be afforded you if we tell the truth. I hope you understand...

You are a very impressive fighter! I cannot believe how much you could do when you were so badly hurt. I hope I never run in to someone from your tribe who is mad at me! I am so glad you could go out with me to find Rath. I could never have done it alone. I am so glad to see you are getting better, I was really worried for a while.

It is difficult for Celeste to take in all Beka is saying but she manages to pick up on some of it. She struggles to sit up a little (not wishing to appear weak in the presence of others). After a moment she replies, "Yes, I will continue to Adala, I have given you my sword...and more." Once again, Celeste will make the offer of friendship in the manner of her people, both hands offered palms up. She attempts to smile and says, "Um, you went with me to get Rath." and waits for Beka's reply.

Her expression darkens as she considers what Beka has said about Ash. "What is this 'misinformation' about Ash? I remember what happened to him. It was no less than he deserved. He was a coward. He would not fight his own battles without the aid of that 'thing.' He never put himself within the reach of 'his' enemies. If he had 'won', it would have been a hollow victory. I am glad he is dead."

"Beka, you are looking much better than when I saw you last, how are you? Where are the others? We didn't lose anyone...did we? What about...Nuyok? What really did happen to him? I think I need to appologize." A look of concern crosses her face as she remembers images of a storm and persons on a ship. Celeste will attempt to pull the sheets aside and get out of the bed.

Everyone is fine, well, recovering but we lost no one. Nuyok was controlled by Ash so he was not responsible for his inconsistancies. I do not believe he is angry with you and your apology will sound better when you are stronger so wait, he will be in to check on you soon I'm sure. He worked very hard to save your life, I'm sure he won't want to end it too soon.: )

But we need to tell a different story.

(I retell what happened in Makos speech called "Spin Doctor in Endgame")

(The I retell "Well.. from Denoument")

And that is why we can't tell the true story. I am very glad you're still coming to Adala with the caravan, we might still make something of this trip after all!

Celeste's attempt to get out of bed meets with objections from Beka...and it still hurts alot. She sits back and catches her breath, looking at Beka for a moment. "No, that is wrong...if one's enemy was strong, and a worthy opponent, you would praise him, and it would be to your tribe's glory that you defeated him. But to say that an enemy who acted so cowardly and destroyed his own people, to say that he saved them instead, to say he was a great leader and died a valiant, heroic death. It would shame me to repeat such a lie. I take no pride in the death of such a coward, only satisfaction that he dug his own grave and now lies in it. I understand why you say it must be this way. If any should ask, I will say nothing, and let my silence tell the truth instead. "

"I wish you could have been on the rooftop Beka. Rath, Faliol and Vagrant were amazing...I saw Ash's arm fall away...and then Ash fell away..." Before Celeste finishes describing the events of the previous night, she has drifted back to sleep.

Beka - "We were awfully lucky to have you with us! That was some night huh? I'm glad your "tail" made it through OK. What were you guys doing down at the harbor for so long?"

Faliol - "Thank you, but I think the Hamilton caravan workers are the lucky ones. Not many caravan leaders would have personally gone after Rath or charged the manor with their workers. You have that rare leadership ability displayed by Mako. You lead from the front, Miss Beka. As a caravaner, believe me when I say that has earned you much respect."

"What were we doing at the Harbor? Ricco and I just happened to be there when they were trying to repair the spirit chain. Did you know that Ricco can swim like a fish? He may be part otter. Anyway, he volunteered to help get the spirit chain off the bottom. I stayed in the boat to watch for gators."

"Tekko and Streak played a very good joke on us. One of them surfaced, yelling, 'Bandit! Swim for your life!' The other grabbed Ricco by the ankle and pulled him to the bottom. The look on Ricco's face was beyond price! I dove in to save him only to surface a moment later to the sound of otter laughter. You think they look funny? They sound funnier. I found the joke to be very funny. Ricco, however....."

Beka - "I hate the misinformation we are telling about Ash but I don't want anything to happen to any of the people I have come to care deeply about, you included! I hope you understand, I'm not doing it to lessen any of your accomplishments, I just know what kind of "justice" will be afforded you if we tell the truth. I hope you understand..."

Faliol - "Yes, ma'am. I understand why you made the decision. I understand that you did it to protect all of us. It took me a little while to get over the shock, but I see the need for the fabrications. Ma'am, you may not know this about foxes, but most of us are excellent liars. I am not a typical fox. That may be why I became a guide instead of working the gypsy caravans. I just don't lie very well. I have neither the talent nor the inclination. If I tell the lies about Ash very often, someone will know that I am covering something up."

Beka - "I would like to continue to Adala once we are all feeling up to it, will you continue with me?"

My tail starts to twitch again.

Faliol - "I would like to go with you to Adala, but that decision is Mr. Kent's to make. I...I...haven't talked with him since just before Able's reaving. He may not want me to stay on as one of the guides. By going into the manor, I left him and my father to fend for themselves. At the time he needed me most, I deserted him. By caravan rules, I abandoned my post. No, don't misunderstand. I made the right choice going with you to stop Ash. I am just saying that Mr. Kent may not see it that way."

Faliol -" ... I am just saying that Mr. Kent may not see it that way."

Beka- "I'm sure they understand. You didn't leave them, you went to save them. If you hadn't gone after Ash, he would have riven everyone in the fort, them included."

Faliol - "... You lead from the front, Miss Beka. As a caravaner, believe me when I say that has earned you much respect."

Beka blushes. "Thank you so much. I am trying to make a success of this caravan. I'll tell you a secret, not even Rath knows. My father was sending this caravan to Karkul with another leader. He doesn't believe the wilds are "any place for his daughter". He would like to see me married off to some fat old merchant where he won't have to worry about me any more. You might not believe this, but I can be a bit strong willed at times (a smile coming to her face). I know the trading part, but I am trying to be good at the leader part too.

Faliol - "... If I tell the lies about Ash very often, someone will know that I am covering something up."

Beka - "Well, you don't have to tell any tale you don't want to. Besides, I'm sure Cas will work up something that can be told without getting anyone in trouble."

You are told by the guards upon the manor that the house has been sealed until the new permanent Master of the Fort is assigned from Talon. If you have a compelling reason, you can discuss it with the Commander.
The soldiers are polite but firm.
OOC: The house belongs to The Master of the Fort, whoever that may be, not Ash. An accountant will have to go over the fort to remove Ash's private belongings before it is turned over. Presumably said belongings will go to Ash's heirs.

Nuyok will make it clear to the guards that, as a Master, he must inspect the Manor for reasons of safety, given the presence of a Reaver Nuyok encountered on the grounds the night before.

If the guards continue to be unyielding, Nuyok will discuss with Handle whether to bother with Mako or to simply wait until cover of darkness (should Handle have even come this far). Also to Handle, "I am interested in any further information that can be obtained within the Manor, not in looting it."

Nuyok would like to access Ash's Manor under cover of night to explore whether Ash had made any writings (notes, diary, etc.) or left any other sort of evidence about Nuyok's passing or anything he may have discovered about Nuyok, given his Master Psychist state.

Also, presumably Ash was not a healer? If not, presumably he would not have had any books on healing, e.g., treating disease and poison, anatomy, etc.?

Ash was presumably not a healer, since Stout never sent for him to help any of the wounded, only the deranged.
Looking at the manor, Mako has it well guarded.

With your Security Systems knowledge, you deduce that you have the skills necessary to enter, unless the windows/doors are locked. You do not feel your lock-picking is up to the task. And you would need to have a distraction for the guards.

Do you wish to ask Mako for entrance, get Handle on board, or try it alone? For the latter two, I will require a more detailed plan. I can provide more observed details upon request.

Nuyok's plan is to to explore whether Ash had made any writings (notes, diary, etc.) or left any other sort of evidence about Nuyok's passing or anything he may have discovered about Nuyok. Primary focus will be wherever Ash would have worked and in his quarters. Also, if there is anything at all about Nuyok or fellow caravan members (written, or items left behind, including anything on the rooftop walk (e.g., scraps of Vagrant's weapon, the Eye, etc.), etc.), Nuyok will want to collect that.

OOC: Not looking to become the next Reaver Master, but Eye scraps (avoid touching directly) seem potentially problematic left lying about.

Nuyok would have Detect Traps and Detect Poison active, just in case, and spend plenty of time searching (time bonuses?).

Although Ash seems to have liked to read, he was not big on writing, apparently. Perhaps that is why he wanted Cas to tell his story. You find no written record of the party. devlin informs you that only a third of the books belonged to the Master. The rest are part of the Manor and will be used by the next Master.
The titles are fairly esoteric and advanced study. There is a nice copy of the Book of Standing Stones, plus many on local history, geography, flora and fauna. There are a large number of psychology volumes.
A large number of items in the Manor are booby-trapped, but their enhancement is fading quickly. If you mention any of these to Mako or Devlin, they say that a team of Architects (Masters) will probably be sent to the fort to re-new everything. Devlin is helpful in pointing out the nastiest things, and even knows code words to de-activate or bypass them. He seems most anxious to prove his loyalty, such as it is.
On the rooftop, you find Celeste's Falchion. It has been in the rain all night (or more) and will need to be steel-wooled and oiled.* Also, small pieces of Vagrant's weapon are also found. Of the Eye, nothing remains save a single shard. You may collect it, but Mako will request that it remain in his possession, unless you have an idea of how to destroy it or a better idea of what to do with it. He is open to suggestions. He doesn't like the idea of a Master having it.
The shard seems lifeless now, possessing none of the eerie reality bending properties the others described.

*I don't recall anyone saying they picked it up.

Nuyok will collect Celeste's falchion to return to her, as well as the scraps of Vagrant's weapon to do the same, and Nuyok will be satisfied that there's no written record of the party, or items left behind, for any object reading.

Regarding the shard, Nuyok will say to Mako: "Nothing appears amiss with the shard from my spirit sight, and seems well beyond repair even by a master animist. However, if there is a threat posed by the object, presumably it would overwhelm you, much like it did Horn. If so, then the cycle would be repeated, and any cover-up of these events here would be exposed. Further, if left here and there is *anything* left to it, it likely would draw a Master's attention, and again, *we* would be exposed. [Emphasis on "we", since by then, he would have implicated himself through his perjury.] If there is nothing to it, then there is no harm either way. If it goes with us, and I am overwhelmed, the situation is bad again. This leaves me with one possibility - to put it in the hands of one from my party. We are aware of what happened, and if I see something happening to them, then I can act with due haste. Further, I would not be in direct possession of it, and less likely influenced. In our journeys, I may discover a means to destroy it - short of that, its existence would have to be revealed to another should destruction be necessary, which would open up a veritable Pandora's box (assuming that expression still exists). I would recommend it to go into possession by either Cas or Vagrant."

Devlin mentions, "Please, don't give it to one of your party, Master! This thing drove the adventurer Horn to madness. I heard him speak with the late Master. It brought dissension and betrayal into his group, so that brother fought brother."

Mako looks alarmed. "Do you want to take a serpent into your band? In nay case, I don't know your crowd well enough to feel real comfortable with that solution.
"Thanks for your offer, Master, but I think that it best this thing is destroyed as soon as possible. That weapon of Vagrant's smashed it up pretty good. Maybe John's hammer and anvil can finish the job."

Mako seems unsurprised. "Yes, I had expected something like that when the spirit chain broke. Your cryptic responses at the time didn't settle my stomach, either. I was on my way to confront Ash, when he blindsided me. I had heard that adepts could do stuff like that, but I've never witnessed it before.
"I spoke with Father Jeo about the enhancements. He held a few of the lines himself, and Ash only let a selected number of them fall. We're likely to lose them all before the Architects get here from Tallon, but I don't think we'll have reaver problems before then. If we do, Father Jeo still holds the line to the Sanctuary."
"If you don't mind, Master, if you could give me a daily report of what's standing, I'd appreciate it."

Tail hangs low to the ground. Head lowered.

Cas spends most of her time carving pieces for her new idea. The Heroes of Fort Lizard Spirit Chess Set (TM). She tries to keep her spirits up and as talkative as possible but parts of that seems like she is trying to hard. She is also reluctant to talk about some of the details to her story. Namely, she will not mention Ash's plans for Cas. On the contrary, she is quite proud of her book incident and singing in the window and will repeatedly share the story with people.

Cas decides to explain her reasons. She looks at Nuyok for this part as she talks, "I saw Mako go inside. I figured maybe if I snuck in through a window or the door I could eaves drop and hear something important. I kind of got caught."

Cas pauses a moment, "After you left, he revealed everything. I really don't think he was an evil man. I think that thing he had corrupted him."

"I only barely succeeded in any of my goals," Cas words seem to reveal her shame. "I just wanted to find out the cause and remove it. I didn't want any of my friends hurt or killed. I'm sure my actions helped foil his plans but I still failed. Celeste, Riccoco, and Handle were all hurt because of me. I also failed to protect you because I was too easily pursuaded to go home."

Cas lets her eyes drift some, "I can't even keep my promise to Ash because it would again bring harm to everyone. I don't know what to do anymore."

Cas lets her face lighten up some, "Well sorry for me to get all emotional like that. Thanks to Ash, I seem to get stuck on my thoughts more than before."

Of the named NPCs of Fort Lizard, only Able seems to be lost. The others may have endured some minor scrapes or stress, but have recovered. There is an air of optimism at the fort now. An air that was totally lacking when you came.

I will be returning to Tallon to serve the remainder of my years with the family of Master Ash.* Commander Mako has explained the situation to me. The Master was... not himself at the time of his demise. I would hate for his memory and record to be tarnished by the indiscretions of fate."

BTW, Nuyok, after about a day and a half after Ash's death, your personality returns. You are free to think whatever you like about him. You remember him questioning you about your party, telling you to ignore the failing wards, convincing you to Trust Him, and so forth. He never taught you anything about turning reavers beyond a few vague references. He was clever and forceful the whole time. If he was corrupted by the Eye, it did nothing to diminish his mental effectiveness.

*You would find it surpassingly likely that none of these is an adept.

If Cas is going to have to give up on telling the true story, she is going to be concerned about the well being of her party. If the investigation is going to attempt to look into the events of what happened and Mako is encouraging making Master Ash the hero, wouldn't that make Devlin a risk?

Or am I misunderstanding the concept of the 'investigation' here?

Mako's point is that with Ash as hero, there will be no investigation. If Ash was killed, no matter how deservedly, by a bunch of wandering adventurers, the authorities in Tallon would want to investigate. He was a Highmaster, after all. If he was a Hero, then the story is much more likely to be accepted on face value, especially when vouchsafed by the fort commander.
This is actually a great risk Mako is taking, and entirely upon your (the party's) behalf. It would personally cost him nothing for Ash to be painted truly. As an expression of gratitude for your timely arrival, he has decided to perjure the record, so that the auhorities will not look too closely at you. Many of you have reasons to avoid such scrutiny.

Horn is indeed comatose at the infirmary. During your stay there, he will slowly recover, but no one thinks he will ever regain his faculties. Mako intends to hold Ash to his word to care for the man, and says that when Ash's heirs are awrded, he will fight to make sure that is included as one of the debts they must also inherit.
If it is any small consolation, though Horn is still broken, he no longer seems troubled--just simple.

The priest gives you an odd look, as if you had asked a modern priest, "Who is this Jesus guy anyway? And how did our world get to be from one of innocent splendor in a fabulous garden to one of toil and hardship. What is this "sin" thing I keep hearing about?"

"You have far more than a hole in your memory, my son. How could you know of the technology of the ancients and not know of the Demon Kings and the Prometheans?
"Nevertheless, the ancients had a magic called "fissics". The records are unclear about the details, but it was apparently a natural philosophy of some kind. Whatever it was, it was unable to protect them from the coming of the Rex Infernae."
Lacking facial clues to show incomprehension, he continues over any bits that might have confused you.
"The Demon Kings ruled the middle world for time out of mind, and made of it their plaything.
"It was Prometheus who found their ways and turned them to the liberation of the spirit. The Demon Kings were banished from the world after great war and strife.
"The world was changed in that strife from ice and snow to warmth and growth. The face of the land altered so that we might live and prosper in new lands."
He pauses, waiting for a verbal cue on how much this is helping you.

Father Jeo doesn't miss a beat, "Rex Infernae is the liturgical term for the vernacular 'Demon Kings'. The term is from an ancient language, or at least beased on remnants of that language.
"The true nature of the Demon Kings is unknowable, save that the world of the ancients was totally unprepared for them. It sounds from historical sources as if the Rex Infernae changed the nature of the world with their coming. The shaped it to suit their own diabolical purposes, much as they shaped animals into men-like beasts.
"It was Shannon, the sympath who interpreted Tallon's Book, who inferred that the Demon Kings gave the world its current shape. Shape in this sense means way of operating. As far as we know it has always been round. But history tells us the ancients ceated wonders with no knowledge of the spirit.
"We adepts use the tools presumably created or discovered by the Demon Kings, but in a more productive manner.
"Blessed be the name of Prometheus and Glory to his Teachings."

"I'll see that you get your cleaning supplies." Regarding the request to sit, Nuyok will glance around to see who is present, grab the closest chair and bring in over to Celeste's bed, and take a seat. "Yes?"

"Nuyok, I want to thank you for saving my life, twice in one night." She looks at him and it is clear she is speaking sincerely. "I was wrong to accuse you of being in collaboration with Ash. I owe you much more than an appology. The only explanation that I can offer is that a lot of us were acting strange and once we heard Houma say that Ash was in charge, and well, you had spent so much time with him since our arrival, it just seemed to all fall together. In the heat of the moment, I was not thinking clearly and I let much of my 'tribal' training take over, we tend to act first and ask questions later. I have spent some considerable time since leaving Devil's Island attempting to control that. Yesterday I failed. We have not a lot of experience with adepts and tend to react with suspicion towards your kind. It is not necessarily a good thing."

Her words seem to tumble out as she attempts to explain before Nuyok's scrutiny. "You risked yourself last night, that I might scale the side of the manor house. I have never witnessed anything so courageous as that. Not even the most fearless of the Red Tide would face down a reaver. If they had witnessed what I have seen, they would sing your praises from now until the passing of the world. I appologize for not having faith in you. You deserve more than that." Celeste looks at Nuyok and waits for his reply.

No apology necessary

"For the healing, you are most welcome, but for your actions, no apology is necessary. Though I was not in league with Ash, he did...have some influence over me, I believe I was drugged. However, I believe Ash was corrupted by the Eye, and was not at fault either. As for courage, I did what was necessary under the circumstances, no more. Facing the Reaver was no easy task, and not one that I would readily repeat, but I believe it necessary for all our survival. However, you were very brave as well, to have fought against a Master wielding a Demon King device, while already wounded. I suspect such actions would also be highly praised among your people." Nuyok lightly smiles saying that. Reaching out to lightly caress Celeste's brow, Nuyok says "But for now, you need your rest, there is only so much that spiritual healing can do, and I'll check back up on you. In the meantime, I'll see to your cleaning supplies, so you can have something to do while here. Is there anything else?"

Celeste take his hand from her forehead and place it over her face up palm. It is a gesture you have seen her offer before. She offers the other palm face up as well, "I wish to be your friend, though I do not deserve it. I will never doubt in you again. Your convictions are strong, I would be honored if you would allow me to call you friend." A shadow crosses her face as she looks at Nuyok.

Celeste smiles at his words, "Thank you." She rubs the corner of her eye, maybe it was a little watery. Clearly this exchange has tired her, but her spirits seem lighter. With an unusual attempt at humor she says, "So, when do we leave Ft. Lizard?"

Nuyok will approach Vagrant in the Inn when only party members are present (i.e., Cori's in the kitchen, etc.), and say "I recovered the remains of your device from atop Ash's Manor," and hands them over. "While I was unsure whether you wished to keep them, I wanted to be sure there was nothing left behind that would raise...a problematic inquiry for any of us."

Vagrant looks at the freshly fired weapon for a moment
and finally reaches for it. Thinking better of it
Vagrant removes a rag from his garments and folds the
weapon fragements into it. As he deposits the package
under his clothes he says, "Thank you Nuyok. You were
right to bring it back to me. It is best for it not
be seen by too many eyes, even destroyed as it is now.
It shook me a bit to see it work its purpose again,
but it is a bit nostagic for me. When I was charged
with law enforcement way way back it was the first
weapon issued to me. I always felt it helped to keep
the peace and not destroy it. Even as violent as it
was at its end, it really did continue that up to the
last. As some say, 'weapons are only as bad as the
people that wield them.' I thank you again."

Cas approaches and enters the conversation in a way that only a fox can manage. She plumps down next to Vagrant, "So from what you were telling me earlier about that weapon it had me wondering." You of course never had this conversation with Cas but she did hear about it in passing. "Where on earth did you get such a thing? I have been to every civilized spot less Mingatok assuming one can call Mingatok civilized. I have never in all of my life heard of anyone getting a weapon standard issue like that."

Cas doesn't wait for an answer before she asks her second string of questions, "What do you mean by way way back?"

OOC: I found one today and decided to just go and mention as many as I can to help.

In World under Mingatok you have it listed as Mingatoki in the paragraph.

Also under Riven:

Who can be Riven?
Humans, mutants and beasts can be adepts. Animates are either immune or so rare that there is no case of one being riven. Adepts are immune to reaving. In fact, adepts can often subtly influence the action of reavers. It is unclear if riven can be riven twice.

Who's Who
Under Hugin it reads "Yzlon. e is a" It should be "He".

"You're welcome. It seems times have changed for you, once an officer of the law, and now a merchant. I would have liked to have seen your device work - all I observed was hearing the explosion. It does not seem very effective though, given its single use and harm to the user - or was that not intended?"

"Let me say that weapons like it were lethal and
reuseable. They killed millions and its good that
they have disappeared. It's best we just put the
weapon's true design and purpose behind us."

When the largest amount of the party are present, Nuyok will say to Beka "So, do we have a departure plan yet? Obviously our timing will depend on the health of the party, and I will see about expediting that process. Also, did the wagon hauling animals (horses?) make it?"

While the party remains in the Fort, Nuyok will examine those that continue to have severe wounds and see about healing them.
