OK, I have started a new thread, since the old one was burgeoning. Please continue what you were discussing in the last thread here.

It will be nearly two weeks before you are at a respectable strength again, even with Nuyok's healing. Cas and Celeste are the primary concerns. Cas will just be weak and anemic for a while, but Celeste has internal injuries to heal.
Under Nuyok and Stout's ministrations, they should be healed in that time.
Beka will recover in a few days for the most part. The poison will work out of her system in that time, and then there are only a few minor wounds to heal.
Rath also will heal quickly, since his wounds are numerous minor and older injuries.
Vagrant's wounds are likewise minor.
In short, all but the two first mentioned will be fine in a week; the other two will be fine at the end of two.
During this two weeks, you can study and practice what you have spent your experience on, and plan what you want to take on the next leg of the journey. Both caravans still have enough supplies in store to reach Adala without needing to purchase anything at the lizard. Anything extra would be in the way of buying more trade goods, luxuries or personal items.

Lastly, My responses may be spotty for the next couple weeks. I am feeling the pressure of some new art assignments from Hero as well as writing my weekly FTF game. I spent a lot of posting time on Fort Lizard and it has taken a bit of a toll.
I still hope to log on daily, but the posts may be shorter.

If it is really taking as long as it is looking, Cas will finish up her main spirit chess figurine set about a week maybe week and a half into it. After the first set is finished, she will move out to the main room when crafting. She keeps the wood she collected earlier nearby incase she can find a way to trick someone into learning her craft.

She will also try to learn crafts from other people provided anyone is patient enough to deal with her.

For the next week, Celeste remains in the infirmiry. She's pretty bored unless people come by to visit her. She spends some time cleaning and oiling the falchion to make sure no rust appears from its night in the rain, and since her belt was lost in the jungle when Bones tied her up; some time fashioning a belt of sorts out of lightweight ropes, utilizing the various sailors knots. At the end of the week, if Stout and Nuyok say it is okay, she will move back to the inn.

She opens the door to the common room of the inn, "Master Jame, is my room still available?"

OOC: Not sure how much time it takes Ricco to start moving, but once he is recovered, Faliol goes to see Celeste in the hospital.

"Hello big sister! Stout taking good care of you? Is there anything you need?"

Leans forward in conspiratorial fashion

"Nice throw you made on the roof, by the way."

Celeste greets Faliol with a big smile. In response to his last statement she says, "Well, it wasn't so much a throw, as a gentle nudge....in the right direction. He may have been corrupted by that artifact, but I saw the look in his eyes, I don't think there was anyway to save him even after it was destroyed...I'm sorry about Abel, he was a good man, he did not deserve what happened to him." Celeste pauses for a moment, "Things seem pretty quiet around here now don't they?"

"As to your first question, yes, Lt. Stout is taking good care of me. Too good if you know what I mean...I think I'm getting fat lying here all day. And what I 'need' is to get out of the infirmiry and back with the rest of you. I miss you guys. Lt. Stout said maybe in a few days I can go back to the inn."

"You know, I haven't seen Rath yet, that was some very impressive team work the three of you performed up there you know. I'm sure Cas is working on a great story..." Celeste continues in a whisper, "...both versions. I think the real story will be known eventually though. Even if we say nothing, there were too many people involved for it not to come out"

Whispering, "Able was a good man. Teamwork? Wish I could say that we had a plan, but we didn't. Rath wouldn't let me get in front. When he focuses on something, it is just better to get out of his way. With reavers on all sides, I couldn't get around both Rath and Vagrant to attack...you know who. I guess we all decided to shoot him pretty much at the same time. I will tell you one thing, I am not standing right next to Vagrant the next time we fight something. My ears took a full hour to stop ringing..."

Cas at this point has been sitting in a seat away from drapes carving. She hears "Horn" and "what happened" and her ears jump straight up. She very quickly and stealthfully moves into position as if she had been their the entire time.

"Actually, if I might interject," she says but doesn't wait for a response before she continues. "Horn and company were sent to retrieve the artifact that had falling into the hands of some bandits. Ash knew this somehow, he didn't say how, and had them acquire it for transportation."

Cas continues despite protests, she talks over their words, "You see the artifact had been originally in the hands of a group of bandits who had discovered it in some ruins in a land called Mich Mice. It had been located in a locked room inside a Demon King temple. It was resting nicely on a pillar as if waiting to be claimed. Unable to pass up on this, they took it thinking it might be worth a fortune."

Cas pauses for a moment, "My lips are very parched. Faliol, would you fetch me a drink? It still hurts to move like that. Thank you."

Cas continues, "Ash somehow learned of this and had Horn and his traveling companions transport three statues. Why you ask? Because Adala sells statues very cheap and he needed to give the appearance that they were legitimate traders. Of course, he also needed statues of himself so that he could begin to decorate his face all over the lands he controlled."

"Anyway," Cas says getting back on track. "Horn and company encountered the bandits who had gone quite mad from the device. So it was easy to kill them and take it. Then each in turn went mad until only Horn was sane enough to reach the fort. He was seen by Ash soon after. Ash changed his psyche and placed a big fat hole in there so that Horn would not know anything related to the artifact."

Cas leans back and enjoys her drink.

I will need to get used to moving around again before we leave." She will gather up her falchion and any other items that accumulated during her stay at the infirmiry and make her way back to the inn. Rath isn't seen very much in the two weeks, and when he is he doesn't have time to talk. Observers will notice that he talks to Mako and then ususally leaves the fort. If asked what he is up to, he will give his child-like grin and tell them "Just trying to fix a mess. Leave me alone for a while and I'll tell you all about it," as he says this you can see he can barely contain his excitement.

"Beka can I come in? I know I have been pretty busy lately, and you're probably
wondering what I'm up to. I guess I've kind of been avoiding you. I...I don't
think I'll be going with you to Adala. Before you get all excited, let me
explain. There were a lot of reavers around here.A lot of reavers means a lot
of riven. What do you think is going to happen to all those riven? It's not
like they are going to be getting jobs anywhere. This means that they will
probably resort to being bandits, and killing people just to survive. Mako will
have no choice but to send soilders after the bandits leadning to more killing.
No one wants all this, so Mako and I have come up with a plan. We are going to
start Riventown. I have worked out a deal with Mako to trade with the fort in
exchange for us scouting and being a sort of front line. What do you think?"

She pauses.

"I know what happened was especially hard on you, but we've always been a team. The TWO of us...
"THREE"
She grins, rolls her eyes and looks at her pouch. "Three".

I understand what you're trying to do but I can't believe you'd leave..."

"Whether or not you name your bow is your concern. I just think it is a bit much to ask of a neglected bow. You want her to work for you, consistently hitting your targets and yet you won't even give her a name. They don't ask for much, our bows. Just a rubdown every now and then combined with a little respect."

Shrugs. Sits down, pulls out a rag and begings to clean Betsy.

Whispering, "Nuyok, you didn't see this happen. You were playing tag with the Riven on the side of the Manor. At one point, the second crossbowman had me sighted. I could tell that he was going to hit me with his bolt. Just when he fired, his bowstring snapped! All he could do was watch as my arrow tore out his throat. If he had treated his crossbow with respect, it wouldn't have let him down. He would have killed me instead of the other way around."

"Who loves you, Betsy? I do.... Betsy likes being rubbed down..."

"Given what we have seen while here, I have no doubt other evils from the time of the Demon Kings exist. Clearly they are rare, so I do not know if you could dedicate yourself solely to fighting such evils, but there are plenty of others out there. One route that could be taken is for one to become a Paladin of a Master with similar goals, and by doing so, becoming imbued with greater physical attributes...though at a cost."

"Good question, given your...condition, I'm not sure how the stress would affect you. Typically the increased physical attributes take their toll, allowing one to live a life that burns more brightly, but at a cost of burning out more quickly. It may be that, in your condition, that you would lose little quality of life, however, if your elder years were racked with pain anyway. Oh, and there is also a condition of loyalty to the Master, but if your goals are similarly aligned, that's of small concern. The whole process bears much pomp and circumstance traditionally, which arguably strengthens the bonds between Master and Paladin."

Clearly if Nuyok enhanced someone in the party, it would not be thought of as a Paladin-like situation? Presumably Masters enhance servants, etc. from time to time?

You hit the nail...
As for enhancements, Paladins are enhanced in all three aspects, becoming faster, stronger, tougher, smarter and more aware.
It is probable that serveants of Masters and Highmasters could be similarly enhanced in one or two aspects, though there would be no ceremony nor expectation of fealty as with a Paladinhood. It probably warrants a mention on the website.
Sigh... you guys just keep adding to my Savage Earth to-do list.

"I hope you don't mind a visitor, Cas. If you are up to it I wanted to ask a few questions of you. Recently, my focus on learning the past has been a bit blurred by recent events. However, it is still important to me to fill my memories of what is missing. How far back do the stories of your kind go back? There was a time when humans were the only (excuse me for this) 'intelligent' creatures that inhabited the world. How can it be that there are now intelligent animals of all kinds?"

"Well to be perfectly honest," Cas says, "I'm a bit ignorant on human history. I have not a clear understanding of the history of beasts, as they would be called, but I have heard of tales of what were known as Rikardo Skari Beasts. They used to operate weird machines and even had their own dictation book. However, the tales that I have heard of these Rikardo Skari Beasts are so simple that I can only conclude they are just that, tales."

"For example, their is an account of some Bear Beasts called the Bear and Steeners Family. The tales are no more interesting than your typical human story. The two parents and a two children stories with various everyday problems. I don't put much weight on a story like that because the stories that have the most depth and uniqueness are the ones most likely to carry truth."

"Those are stories that pre-date the Demon-Kings or whatever they are. However, their is a particular love story that I have heard of that pre-dates the Demon-Kings that does seem to fit of the story. In fact, it seems to involve a Reaver or at least a Beast Riven. Something about a person named Belle or some such nonsense who encountered a beast living in a castle. The local villagers didn't like the Beast and he died in the end. But he was originally human so that could be the first Beast."

As a player, I don't know much about when Beasts first appeared or what stories they would have. It is likely that my 'Phantom Fox' creation was one of the firsts and that I could easily create stories for but I can not provide anything that could fit timeline without some GM input.

Those are fine, though it does indicate some city influence, since barbarians don't have a lot of access to old books. Any legends about beasts should be influenced by a few observable facts or common experiences.

Successive generations of beasts tend to be more humanoid.
Some acknowledgment of the Demon Kings and a prior civilization should be made. After all, the ruins were created by something.
Humans are greater than beasts. Not better. That's important from a beast point of view, but greater. They build amazing things, know all kinds of skills, are the most numerous and oldest talking species, etc.

Beasts that trade or live near cities should be influenced by city thinking. This category would include all of the beaasts in the caravan. Yo uare not city dwellers, but you are all Merikian beasts. Therefore, it is unlikely a story of Cas' would go too far from the accepted truth of history.
Gators, who have no congress with humans, have a very different creation myth.

"I hope you are feeling better Celeste. If you wouldn't mind I'd like to speak with you for a bit."

Vagrant sheepishly enters the room and takes us the smallest square of space near Celeste.

"I have been doing some soul searching since the battle and somehow ended up here. We spoke, what seems like an age able, in front of the fire one night. We spoke about this world and what it offers its inhabitants. It's obvious, that I am an outsider to all this but this most recent adventure has awoken some of my old self again. I once was a defender of the people but that was in a world where rules and regulations were there to be upheld. In this world, it is all quite lawless. Murder is frequent and often unpunished. Even my own party kills easily and some take pay for it."

Vagrant pauses and gazes into Celeste's eyes before continuing.

"Is this a world that would welcome a defender? Or is it really expected to just fend for yourself and possibly those you call your family?"

Celeste looks back at Vagrant, trying to make eye contact through the layers of rags. " I am feeling much better. Let me say thank you for what you did. I have never seen such a thing as that strange weapon of yours, and, well, in the dark it was difficult to see except by the light coming from the reaver. You are a very brave man Vagrant..."

Celeste looks at the shapeless form in front of her..."You must have another name..." she waits for his response to her statement before continuing.

"Well, from one outsider to another, yes, defenders are welcome. There are armies, such as here at the fort, and you must have seen the guards at the city gates. Even in my tribe there are those who defend, they do so at the command of the chieftan. Laws? Laws are for city folks. I do not care much for cities, they make me uncomfortable. "

"As for murder. Murder is a city crime. It is not the same as killing in battle. Killing is never easy...it is 'necessary' to defend oneself and family or tribe. Enemies must be vanquished, at least that is the way of my people...except they aren't my people any more."

Celeste sits up straighter in the bed and leans forward, "You should really see Master Nuyok about that cough of yours. Vagrant (or his real name if he will tell), I do not know where you come from, but you are here now, and you have shed blood for me, by my reckoning that makes you my friend and my family...I would have you be my friend and brother in arms...but I would first see the face of one who I call 'brother' " With that Celeste once again offers her hands, palms up*, to Vagrant.

*The proper response is to place your hands atop hers, palms down, if you choose to accept her offer of friendship. This is a Shattered Isles Sea Tribe custom denoting 'no weapons between us'.

I spend the time taking short walks around the fort into the jungle, not far, not out of sight of the walls, but just to get acclaimated to the jungle more before we leave. As it rains again I look to get a new cloak.

With Cas's, and those around the fort's help, I learn to drive the wagons and a lityle about the oxen and other animals used for such things.

.oO(Since they are feeding me and housing me, I have no should be greedy and so will keep my otherwise less than legal means of a livelihood in check. Well unless something truly inspiring comes upon me. He he.)

I'll make the rounds, visiting the wounded, trying to help others as they need it, still not feeling all that close with anyone but keeping my presence in their thoughts so they don't leave me behind.

"I'd like to hear more about where we will be going, how far it is, and also what you all would like in the way of trail food so I can get what we need to prepare it"

As I notice Nuyok learning the bow and obverhear Beka giving some pointers....

"Beka, If you dont mind, I would like some learning on such as well. It could come in handy if I am to be a guard as needed. I felt pretty useless when those riven attacked the fort."

.oO(I may be able to act just clumsy enough to get her to stand close and show me how to use the thing, not that I really care a wit about it, you can't be hiding or climbing around with such a thing easily.)

Cas had recently been sitting talking about Horn when hearing this conversation. Her ears perk up once again and she quickly and stealthfully moves to interject in the Adala conversation.

"Adala is a fantastic city not far from where we now are," Cas says. "We are half way from the Ferry Landing and Adala now as we speak. Provided we encounter no fallen trees, carnobrocs, gators, reavers, riven, insane bandits, insane adepts, or any other silly reaving nonsense we should be there in under a week."

Cas moves into her history lesson of Adala, "Adala is a land that is older than old itself. Why my good friend Melia loves the city. We once stopped someone from stealing a stick form someone else. Later we learned it was just practice for the Games. You see Adala has the Games were they have an assortment of competitions including the 'Steal the Stick' and 'Toss the Beast' of course I think that last one is an exageration. Adala is a great city to load up an spirits to sell across the land too."

Cas turns her ears back to 'radar mode' to find other conversations to jump into.

"I believe the commander has something in mind about your weapons. I can't say anything yet, but between you and me, I wouldn't buy any weaponry before leaving."

As for dreamleaf, there is none at either trading establishment. You are offered a price much better than you could get in Tallon, but not as good as you are hoping for in Adala. If you are thinking about selling, I will research the figures.
Basically, it would give you some short term cash at the expense of greater (hoped-for) profits at the end of the road.

They have a good handle on basic necessities and tools and such. Luxury items would go well, but they would have to be things within the purchase power of the average soldier.
Good food, finely crafted buckles, buttons, belts, small weapons, nice lamps, good sandals, that sort of thing.
It might require a KS: Military to know what would be acceptible or desirable for a soldier to wear with his uniform or to know what might be improved upon.

John is puzzled by the strange request. "Ne'er mind, though. A man who smithies at the Lizard done seen his fair bit of strangeness, and that's a fact."
He lifts a heavy hammer in one hand while holding the shard in place with the tongs. WHANG! the hammer comes down upon the artifact, which promptly turns to powder.
"Any more bits o' dangerous glass you need conquered?" he asks drily. He brushes away the debris with a rag.

When the opportunity presents itself for Nuyok to discreetly talk with Handle, he will ask him "Have you heard of a place or land named Mich Mice? Apparently it is within a reasonable distance from here, and was the location of a Demon King Temple in which the artifact was found. With the dangerous artifact now gone, it seems there may be some value in exploring it, either now or on the return trip (should there be one)."

OOC: sorry I missed this before

I look at you at first like I might be looking at someone that asked if I wanted to cut off my hands and eat them but it quickly passes.

" I don't know nothin' outside of the streets of Talon, never been outside the walls even til three weeks ago. And though I wouldn't be against finding something to sell for a bit of profit, I think it is not just some left around reaver ball that makes such a place dangerous. For all the tales I heard, the Demon Kings din't much like anyone in their places without them askin' and left alot of things around to make it so they could keep it that way."

After expelling this like a leaf in a strong wind, I begin to talk a bit slower,

" Though, if a bag of sorry socks like that Horn and his could make in and out with that there , um, arteefac, then I guess it can't be all that bad, eh. Yeah, I guess I'm game if youwould be goin with me Nuyok, having an adept to watch over you could just be the trick needed to get around them sly ol' Demon Kings."

I give Hoyuk a good natured elbow to the ribs, then seem to realize what I am doing,

" Oh, Uh sorry about that your Adeptness, sir."

"Good then, we'll keep an eye out for this 'Mich Mice' on our way to Adala. This Temple likely is not too far off the beaten path, as it would not have to be to still be hidden in this thick jungle, and also because the bandits were using it, presumably as a base for their banditry. Hmmm, things to keep an eye out for then - anything associated with the Demon Kings such as ruins, bandit corpses slain weeks ago by Horn's crew, the statutes carried by Horn's crew, anything else?"

The two marine mammals are easily found down at the harbor. Tekko is on the dock, splicing some rope, while Streak is out in the harbor. At your approach and presumed request, Tekko calls in Streak. The otter shoots up onto the dock. They appear bright and chipper as always.

The day is bright as well, with many more people about than when you first arrived. The doors to the boathouse are open and you can see the carpenter doing some minor maintenance alongside his assistant. Soldiers are visible along the walls.

Before the sun actually shines down on the fort grounds, but as the sky is lighting at its nearing rays, I wake and get my things together.

.oO(I can't say I feel right about traveling with a stone side brat, a bunch of beasts and an adept especially seeing as they are all really stupid, but anywhere is better than here. It has been two weeks and there were alot of reavers brought here. It is a wonder one hadn't returned just by chance already. Propnes! but I never even sen a reaver before and then this thing happens. Bet that master Ash is goinna giet a statue or something bult to commerorate his "bravery and incredible ability". Besides, I don't like the way some of the fort guards are watching us. )

Trying not to be overly suspicious, I pack my things and leave the Inn, grabing a hunk of bread and dlwoning an ale as I pass through the common room. Taking my things, I secure them on Beka's wagon. Preparing the travel goods and food and water as well, I make sure I know where everything is and then go to get the animals ready.

Arriving at the corral holding our oxen I wave to the attending boy,
"Gonna be headin' out this mornin'. Leastwise that is what the boss said last night. Can you give me a hand, those oxen from the trader's wagon came in a few weeks ago, " I say while pointing out what seems the most healthy,

In actions so fast they resemble a blur, Beka sprints across the wagon and leaps throwing herself at and on to Rath. "I knew you wouldn't leave me!" As she impacts with such force he staggers they tumble to the ground and she begins ineffectually pummeling him. "Stupid, stupid, stupid, make me think you were leaving, can't believe you would go." The fists become tighter and the speech less coherent as she dissolves into a blubbering mess sitting on a bewildered giants chest. She cries very hard for a short period of time, and then sits up and shakes her head as if to clear it. "Yes, of course we are leaving without you! You don't have time for us anymore! YOU are some big shot mayor!" At this, she stalks to the other side of the wagon and begins to misadjust the straps. She frequently peeks over the oxen to make sure Rath is not going anywhere. It is evident that if he walks away, he will face something even more frightening than several Reavers converging on a helpless victim, a spoiled brat of a woman who has been deeply hurt. You might also notice that she is coiling some rope as if to lasso someone, hog-tie them, and make sure they do her bidding.
