Like lightning, the Paladin streaks down the hall. The others follow in his wake, but it is a reckless speed at which to move into unknown territory.

Turning the corner just before the magnificent stairway, the party encounters a pair of ax wielders. The barbarians turn to engage, screaming war cries. Before they can raise their axes, Orlando swings a mighty two handed blow, obviously intending to strike both of them. The barbarians pull up just shy of the whistling blade.

Riccoco comes up to the Paladin's left and thrusts his trident past the man's arm. The tines do not reach their target.

Faliol however, stabs with his broadsword to Orlando's right and deeply gashes the barbarian's ax-arm, causing him to drop his weapon in pain.

Attacking again before the barbarians can strike, Orlando's bastard sword buries itself in the vitals of an opponent. Either he is stronger than he looks or the blade must be sharper than a surgeon's knife, for the man is nearly cut in half. "Next time, just open the damn gate," says the enhanced fighter.

Handle looks in vain for a way to join the attack, but the corridor is too crowded. He bides his time and waits for an opening.

The weaponless barbarian scrabbles for his ax with his off-hand.
The other two strike at the Paladin, but the man is simply not where their weapons are. None of you have ever seen anything like this. Orlando is evading calmly, though his moves are lightning quick and precise.

The Paladin attacks again, his sword nearly invisible with speed. Those of you who have never lived in a City for long begin to get an understanding of just what is possible for humans to achieve. The spirit blade takes the barbarian's leg off just above the knee. The blow is so clean that the man continues to try and step before his hindbrain realizes the limb is gone. He collapses into unconsciousness.

Riccoco realizes that Orlando is also fighting with little regard for those in his immediate vicinity. The sword makes mighty arcs. Perhaps "right behind him" is not the safest place after all. He is now cautious on the attack and his next blow goes wild.

Faliol also realizes this and circles around the Paladin at a healthy distance. He scores a good hit on the barbarian nearest the stairs, stabbing deep into his vitals, right through his broad leather belt. Had the blow been an inch higher the man would be dead. As it is he is clutching in pain at his midsection, no longer a threat.

This gives Handle the opportunity to move forward and finish off the first man on the ground. He kicks the axe away as he delivers a death blow.

Meanwhile Orlando does something you have heard in tales and books but know from combat experience never happens in real life. He actually buries his sword to the hilt in his opponent. Over two feet of spirit blade extend from the man's back. Nevertheless, he pulls it out cleanly and smoothly.

A Hill tribe barbarian appears at the kitchen door. He snarls, "None shall pass this por--AAAAGH!"

His sentence is never finished. Orlando's sword cuts into his thigh. While he is screaming, Riccoco's trident stabs upward into his chest, stilling his heart. Orlando takes a moment to look down in surprise at the Raccoon, as if just noticing him. Then he smiles and winks. "Thanks, little Bandit." The effect would be more charming if the two weren't both sprayed with blood.

There are sounds of fighting coming from down the kitchen stairs. The door is open. It sounds like there is an army down there. All of you enter the kitchen.
Faliol and Handle reach the stairs first, while Riccoco and Orlando move the body out of the way.

You recognize one of the voices from below, but cannot make out what it is saying. It belongs to Jonnit.

Faliol's mouth drops open at Orlando's display of combat prowess.

He closes it as an arterial spray arcs blood high into the air.

.oO(I was back talking that whirling death merchant!)

As Faliol scores a decent hit on the midsection of one unlucky barbarian, he screams out, "That is for RATH, you scum!!!"

As he hits the stairs, Faliol puts out a left hand to Handle, indicating his wish that his wounded friend NOT be first in line. He then moves forward, Half move, hold second half for attack.

Riccoco returns the Paladin's grin, his own a little hesitant as he tugs on his trident, in order to free it. As the sounds of battle reverberate up the cellar stair, Ricco glances hurriedly around. "The others be down there! Let's be at it, then!"

Contrary to his vehemence, Riccoco doesn't scuttle past Orlando. He'll wait for the Paladin to lead the way down the stair.

.oO(By the Toad, this revenge be a bloody mess!)

I stop down the stiars, ducking to one side and hold to let the Paladin pass.

.oO(By the Stones, a real paladin and I'm fighting on his side. Or is it he is fighting on mine? How did I get here? Best to stay behind and finish off any he leaves alive and watch out for the others, if I can.")

A lot of bleeding

Leckchock again ascends to the ceiling, his hands and oddly-shaped feet allowing him to climb nearly as fast as he could walk. Even eerier is that he doesn't seem to act as if this is anything special.

Beka slashes her opponent and removes his hand at the wrist. The man doesn't even scream, but whirls away around the pillar losing his life's fluid. He will be dead in seconds.

Vagrant gestures in the direction of the reinforcements and muffles something through his gag, but Cassie's eyes never travel farther than his gun hand. Her stance remains steady. "Make it work, Old Man."

Throne advances but does not yet attack.

Nuyok notices a weakness in his opponent. Guiding his blade truly, it thrusts against a previously broken rib. The man screams in agony and goes down.

Throne takes advantage of Nuyok's momentary distraction and delivers the adept a scratch just above the knee. "You were a fool to return here, Master Nuyok. A predictable fool."

Cassie, the female barbarian, continues to hold her stance.

Cas becomes enraged as Nuyok is hit. She obviously hadn't expected the merchant to wait and attack so calmly. With an animal snarl, she thrusts with her stiletto, only to see the blade skitter from his clothing. Spirit cloth armor!

Across the room, Vagrant sees the barbarians piling out of the pit like a swarm of ants. One of them is heading right at him, axe swinging toward his midsection. He realizes he has no choice. If he fails to fire, he will die. The gun is his only chance. Hi only--

Click.

clickclickclick.

"Uuung!" The axe bites into Vagrant's torso. His nearly nerveless fingers still somehow manage to hold the replica weapon, but the pain is excruciating.

The barbarian is set to deliver another, killing blow, but suddenly the man from the Ancient World feels his bonds go slack. Cassie has finally moved, but has produced a dagger from somewhere with which she has cut his bonds. "No warrior should die trussed like a pig," she says.
All around him the Hill Tribe spirit axmen run screaming into he fray. The cellar is now a genuine cacophony, with blades ringing and biting and people screaming and dying.

Leckchock drops in behind Throne, His opportunity is perfect. His axe cuts through the air, but is intercepted by one of Throne's guards. The merchant casts a quick glance at the sound and then maneuvers himself for better protection on both fronts. "Nice try, monkey man," he says mockingly.

Beka runs to intercept the advancing horde, oblivious to all but easing her pain at the loss of Rath. Her sword cuts into a man at chest height, digging a ragged wound. "Diediedie!" she screams.

Vagrant staggers free of his ropes and reverses useless pistol to a club. Somebody's going to pay. He turns and takes in the carnage of the cellar.

On her way to Throne, Celeste notices that Beka is about to be overwhelmed. Is she so consumed by guilt that she seeks absolution in death? She turns to aid her friend and delivers a stunning blow to one of the ambushers.

Meanwhile, Throne pricks Nuyok in the stomach. Hardly a scratch; the adept will only discover it later.

Nuyok Tries to find a weakness in Throne's defense, but the merchant is obviously very well trained in fighting. His blade hits only empty air. The attempt is met with that same stupid mocking smile.

Again Leckchock and Nuyok strike, attempting to deliver a stunning one-two combination. Throne is too canny and avoids both attacks.

Beka hits her opponent again, but the blow is superficial. The man screams in her face in a thoroughly rude fashion.

Vagrant is about to swing the pistol but around and then says, "Ah, the hell with it!" and delivers a roundhouse kick that knocks the man off his feet. He instantly regrets this as the fire in his midsection almost makes him pass out. Maybe the gun might be a better idea after all.

Celeste delivers a second blow to her opponent. Her sword cleanly invades the man's heart, killing him instantly. She whirls around to help Beka.

She is surprised by a stinging blow to the side of her head. The female barbarian (Cassie) has attacked her with her bare hands. The strike was so rapid and well placed that it felt almost like a knife blow. "Disgusting women! To fight with men's weapons! You are as weak as men!"

Again, Throne's sword finds Nuyok's mid-section. This blow is deeper, and the Master feels a burning pain. "Tonight we tie up all the loose ends, Adept!"

Cas is wild now, but no matter how deftly she strikes, the hated merchant who is attacking her family remains unscratched. She is only one step away from dropping the clumsy weapon and taking him out the old fashioned way, with her unnaturally sharp claws.

Meanwhile, the axman who blocked Leckchock's attack says, "Remember me, Ape? You hit me while I wasn't looking. Now fight like a true man!" His ax swings hard and connects with Leckchock's knee. The enhanced blade bites deep, but the mutant grits his teeth and bears the pain.

Meanwhile, one of the ambush squad comes to Throne's aid and swings at Cas. The fox is far too nimble, however and the blow never hits.

Another ambusher places himself next to Throne's side and assumes a defensive posture. He will certainly try to intercept any blow aimed at the merchant.

Beka's durable opponent swings downward, attempting to cleaver her from crown to sternum. She steps backward and the axe continues down to strike the floor. Spirit ax it may be, but there are limits. The blade hits the flagged floor just wrong and bounces out of the barbarian's hand.

At that moment a man comes flying down the stairs, his face is impossible to make out in the heat of battle, but the panic is clear in his voice. "A demon! They have summoned a demon to aid them!"

Another voice sounds from the same direction directly afterwards, "Demon, hells! Throne, we've got a Paladin about twenty steps behind me!" The second voice belongs to Jonnit.

Cas looks at Throne. Rage floods her eyes. It is the man who had her friend killed. It is the man who wants Nuyok dead. Cas needs Nuyok more than anything right now. Without Nuyok, Cas will never get her chance to remember Rath. She looks at Throne and sees Ash in his eyes. More than anything, she wants this man dead.

Cas looks at Throne right into his eyes as she says, "You've got bigger things to worry about right now than demons."

She will let out another fox cry as she attacks. Her stiletto hand will look like it is coming in on Throne's left side but is a feint as she tries to press her claws into him. Whether the attack hits or not, Cas will launch into a fury of claw strikes on Throne and position herself between Throne and Nuyok.

OOC: I'm aware that I'm probably lower SPD than Throne but I'll do my best to try and pull this off. If I can't pull it off, at least I can creep everyone out enough to draw the fire on me instead of on Nuyok.

Note: in the text below, the numbered barbarians are the ones who sprang up from the shaft. They are referred to as Ambushers. The initial fighters are referred to as guards or barbarians.

Orlando moves from the fallen guard to the doorway, then stares in annoyance at the slow-moving people in his way. "Move and fight, or stay behind," he barks. He seems to have little patience for anyone who doesn't move like a Paladin.

Down in the Basement, Leckchock strikes low at Throne, but the merchant is too hard to hit. It is obvious from his movements that he is a combat veteran.

Nuyok perceives a weakness in the Morphia of Ambusher 5 and strikes at his left arm. The man takes the brunt of it on his bracers, but drops to one knee, stunned with pain.

Riccoco does his best to keep up with Orlando, moving to the cellar door He too is caught up by the press of people at the portal. "By the Toad's Hairy Goat," he whispers, "What be goin'on down there?"

Below, Beka is seemingly beyond thought for safety. Every blow she strikes is punctuated by the shout, "For Rath!" She stabs Ambusher 1 in the stomach. He winces but does not go down.

Vagrant strikes like a snake, his forearm catching the crook of his opponent's ax, sending it spinning to the ground. Both men dart their eyes toward the fallen weapon.

Urged on from behind, Faliol enters the basement. He is met immediately by Jonnit, laying in wait. The two strike instinctively. Jonnit's sword slices Faliol's thigh, a minor wound at best. Faliol returns with a strike to the shoulder that causes Jonnit's arm to go limp, dropping his sword from nerveless fingers. He drops to the ground in agony.

Celeste strikes the female barbarian in the upper arm. Though the cut is deep, the woman does not cry out in pain."C-coward..." she sputters. She strikes an odd pose, combative, yet foreign to the former Sea Raider.

Throne looks desperate. He could see the impression Nuyok's remarks have made. His men look hesitantly at the door, waiting for the adepts 'demon' to appear. "Simpletons!" he shouts. "This man is mortal! nothing more! I'll prove it!" His sword stabs deep into Nuyok's upper arm, causing the stoic adept to grit his teeth. Though the blade has sliced to the bone, the Master refuses to give the Merchant the benefit of a scream.

Those below see an unknown fighter (Orlando) swing around the door frame and lightly drop the fifteen feet down into the cellar. He is powerfully built, though supple as a gymnast, bearing expensive armor and a beautiful sword. He hits the ground running and announces in a loud voice, "Cease hostilities in the name of High Justice Rakeen" To his chagrin and annoyance, he is ignored.

Handle moves into basement and quietly kicks Jonnit off the stairs. The guard lands below with a groan. He lays still.

The female Hill Triber (Cassie) strike Celeste a blow to the neck with the tips of her fingers. Though the blow is light, it stings like blazes. The pain lingers as well, like a pinched nerve. "That is how women fight, manfighter"

Across the basement, Cas looks at Throne right into his eyes as she says, "You've got bigger things to worry about right now than demons." Her stiletto moves quickly, but her claws move quicker. Throne is caught completely off-guard by the maneuver. Her sharp talons rake across his upper arm, leaving four deep gashes. He actually roars in pain, but does not drop his weapon or his guard.

The vengeful cellar guard strikes again at Leckchock. "Mutant trash!" he hisses. His sword comes nowhere near the forest dweller.

The other barbarian on the stairs ascends and strikes at Faliol. The cunning vulpine neatly evades the attack, saying, "Is this the best that Throne has to offer? Surrender now, and we may let you live."

Over by Vagrant, Ambusher 3 dives for the fallen ax first. He rolls over the ax, coming up kneeling, the weapon firmly grasped.

Ambusher 4 comes around the adept Nuyok, while the adept's attention is taken witht he pain in his arm and the enemy before him. He strikes a blow from behind, and the axe bites deep into Nuyok's side, ripping through flesh. A disturbing amount of blood sprays over Cas as Nuyok drops to the floor, still as death.

Ambusher 6 covers Throne, his ax ready to receive any incoming attacks.

Ambusher 7 charges upon Celeste. His axe thumps into her ribcage and nearby Beka can hear bones cracking. Celeste falls to the ground, reflexively twitching. her teeth are clenched, and blood is coming from her mouth.

Ambusher 8 misses Vagrant. "Riven freak!" he hurls.

Nuyok lies in a spreading pool of blood. Cas stares at him, as if unable to comprehend what has happened.

Across the cellar, the Paladin Orlando witnesses the fall of Nuyok. "BARBARIAN SCUM!" he shouts in a voice amplified beyond normal. "YOU HAVE STRUCK DOWN A MASTER! DEATH IS YOUR JUDGEMENT!" by the time he says, "STRUCK", he has bounded the intervening space in three mighty leaps and nearly severs the man's ax arm.

Leckchock's axe hits Throne, but to his annoyance, the blade is turned by the marvelous armor-like cloth the man wears. The merchant takes only a scratch. However, Throne looks about in consternation. Between crazy vixen, vengeful forest man and battle-raged Paladin, he seems to be deeply considering his position.

At the top of the stairs, Riccoco finally gets into the basement and assesses the situation. "This not bein' no good Ricco ol' 'coon" he thinks. He grips his trident and looks for where he is needed most.

Beka is enraged. here eyes almost gleam red as she shouts, "For Rath! For Celeste! For Nuyok!" The barbarian is pressed back under her fusillade of blows but manages to avoid injury.

Vagrant swallows his pain and pushes into a tight ball at the pit of his stomach. There will be time enough later. Outwardly, he says, "idiot now I'll have to take it from you," and dives for the weapon his opponent has just recovered. The two roll on the ground for a moment, Vagrant's cloak billowing and disguising their motion. There is an audible grunt and Vagrant rises with the ax in his possession. The barbarian looks enraged.

Faliol looks at the barbarian blocking his way. "Just remember when you get to your afterlife, I gave you a chance." His sword stabs deep into the guard's forearm. The barbarian shows shrieks and falls, clutching the wound.

Throne comes to a decision. Turning tail, he runs for the shaft. "Cover me!" He shouts. He looks truly upset and possibly afraid.

Orlando refuses to follow Throne until he has dealt some long-bladed justice. "May your spirit wither into the void!" he snarls. His sword removes the man's other arm at the shoulder. There is blood everywhere now.

Upon the stairs, Handle jumps off into the cellar, cushioning his fall by landing on Jonnit. Riccoco follows in his wake. There is a double thump as they hit the floor. Jonnit won't be getting up soon, if ever.

Cassie runs to Vagrant and strikes him with a knife-edged hand. Though the open hand strikes like a knife blade, the blow is turned by the spirit cloak that Beka gave him only two days ago.

Cas suddenly snaps, whirling and snarling, almost a maddened animal. She is about to hurl herself after Throne's retreating forces when the Paladin snaps, "Vixen, your Master may not yet be dead. See to his wounds if you would have him live." Cas struggles, fighting Prometheus only knows what inner demons. With a wrenching sob, she turns herself to Nuyok and begins to examine his wounds. They do not look good.

The bound guard named Jornu seems to have gathered enough wits to shout into the general melee, "Throne is selling spirit axes to the hill tribes. Don't let him escape!"

The barbarian who has been steadily attacking Leckchock is getting madder and madder. "Don't sit there grinning, you ape!" Though Leckchock is obviously far faster and more agile than his attacker, the axe catches a lucky blow, striking the unfortunate mutant in the hands. It is the final straw. Leckchock drops, his hands clenched in agony, fingers severed.

Ambushers 5 & 6 retreat after Throne, keeping their attention on all possible enemies. They are ready to defend his retreat.

Ambusher 3 snarls and leaps at Vagrant. "Twisted thing! The ax is mine! Mine by right!" Vagrant twists aside as the maddened warrior leaps at him. Though he evades the attack, he nearly passes out from the pain. Looking down, he is surprised by the size and wetness of the spreading red stain on the front of his cloak and rags. Something feels... loose.

Ambusher 8 retreats to the lip of the shaft, waiting for Throne to catch up. He is crouched and ready.

Beka's assailant overcomes her onslaught long enough to mount a counter-attack. His ax swings low, but fails to penetrate her whirlwind sword. "Stupid woman!" He hisses, "if you fight you will--" He is unable to continue as Beka increases the ferocity of her attack.

Ambusher 7 attacks the Orlando. The paladin is nearly impossible to hit.

At this point, two of the ambushers are hors de combat.

With almost casual ease, the paladin hurls the intervening warrior (7) to one side. He does not even break stride as he runs through the cellar. Leaping over the intervening foes, he overtakes Throne, intending to place himself between the merchant and the shaft.

Leckchock lies upon the floor, bloody and cradling his mangled hand.

Beka's sword is now going up and down like a hammer, pounding relentlessly upon the barbarian's guard. His axe handle catches her sword time and again, but finally the Tallon-forged weapon splinters the shaft, heart-struck rage lending her the power to do what should not be possible: her mundane weapon cuts through the haft of a spirit ax. The blade continues downward and lays open the man's front. He falls shrieking to the flagstones.

Vagrant holds his action for a moment, battling his pain and also his amazement at the paladin's movement.

Faliol sees Nuyok and Leckchock, lying in a tangle of bodies and blood, with only Cas frantically trying to hold them together. She is looking at her inadequate paw-like hands and cursing. A barbarian (7) looms over her, ready to bring his ax down upon her oblivious head. The fox runs to her aid.

Throne looks at the paladin and the shaft beyond. He suddenly yells, "Rush him!" The Merchant prepares to do an end run around the Paladin, but Vagrant sees an opening. The guards are no longer prepared for any attacker but the enhanced Orlando. With no warning cry, Vagrant simply runs up and swings his axe into Throne's lower chest. The Merchant looks down at the weapon that has cut through his armor. His face registers a dull surprise. Then he falls to the ground. Vagrant slumps beside him, totally spent.

The Barbarian guard looks at Throne for a moment. Vagrant knows what comes next and silently prays that the end of his strange adventure in a world he never made will come swiftly. Then one of the Ambushers says, "Run for it." As a man, they turn for the shaft, their only hope of escape from the city.

At the edge of the shaft, Ambusher 8 prepares to turn and run, but the Paladin is quicker. He slices the man's arm neatly, causing him to crumple in pain. He turns and waits for the onrush of the four remaining barbarians.

Riccoco, Handle and Faliol reach Cas' attacker almost simultaneously. The man dies instantly in a storm of sword dagger and trident.

Beka, with no one left to attack, sags to her knees, suddenly aware of her own precarious health. She has several ragged wounds, but even worse is Celeste. Painfully she crawls over to her barbarian friend and begins to stop the blood flow. Her hands (which just hammered through a spirit axe) shake, and she wonders if she has the strength to apply pressure.

Ignoring the fire in his gut, Vagrant pulls himself up onto his elbows and places the razor-sharp edge of the axe to the merchant's throat. Should he end it now?

Faliol, Handle and Riccoco notice a servant girl fleeing the cellar. She is wounded, but bears no weapons. Obviously a noncombatant caught in the wrong place. [They were never in a position to see her clearly when she was attacking]

Cas is now holding wads of cloth to the adept's wounds, saying over and over, ?Don?t die! Don?t die! If you die, all of it dies."

The four remaining ambushers rush the Paladin at the edge of the pit. At the last second, the paladin ducks low, bringing his sword up and around in a roundhouse arc. Three barbarians are caught in the deadly compass of his blade.
Two are wounded and one has his arm removed at the chest, dead instantly.

The untouched one swings his axe and connects with the paladin, striking him a glancing blow in the arm. To Vagrant's astonishment (he is the only one who has a clear view), the blade skitters off his flesh without penetrating it. The others retreat down the shaft, holding their wounds and their precious weapons.

The paladin takes a hard look at Vagrant and says, "Slay him not if he yet lives. Justice must be served." Vagrant summons a response, "T-theres a Master down there." Orlando nods understanding, then he descends the shaft after the fleeing barbarians.

The cellar is less noisy than before, but it is now filled with moans of pain and the cries of the dying.

Cas is kneeling in a pool of mixed blood. She has already half disrobbed, having taken off her leather wrap. She ties the wrap around the wounds of Nuyok. The blood is still flowing out but no longer as severe. Without hesitation, she takes the rest of her clothing off, for it is all she carries and applies it to the the wounds that will not stop bleeding.

She has not looked up from her spot and is totally unaware of Celeste's fate. She has noticed Lekchock and feels a great pain of guilt that she cannot help both at the same time. "It will be alright Nuyok," she says not even aware that he is unconscious. "It was just like when Ash ran me through. The wound will heal and you will remember the pain when you see the scar but you will live. So don't worry. I'm helping you now for a change so this makes us even."

OOC: I'm desperate, I have no supplies. If my character action offends anyone out of character I do apologize.

Faliol's training as caravan guide takes over. No time to stand around stunned or sickened.

Friends were dying.

His eyes take in the devastation, assessing the scene professionally. Cas was trying mightily to heal their fallen war leader, but lacked both the skill or the delicate fingers. Miss Beka was likewise ill-suited to deal with Celeste's wounds. Memories of their past fights indicate that only Handle and himself (of the standing caravaners) seemed to have the training needed to save the two most injured friends.

Averting his eyes so as not to embarrass her, "Let me take over helping Nuyok, Cas. Please go help Lekchock. Tie his belt or something ropelike around his wrist to stop the blood flow. I will tell you when to loosen it."

"Handle, please take over helping Celeste for Miss Beka. Celeste is critical, I fear."

"Someone needs to see to Vagrant's injuries and someone else needs to make sure none of these wounded bastards has a weapon within easy reach."

With that said, Faliol uses his Paramedics skill on Nuyok, taking the appropriate time to get the full roll.

If Cas complies with his directives, when the time to loosen the tourniquet on Lekchok nears, Faliol tells her. Just in case, he mentally halves the maximum time that cutting off the blood flow will cause permanent damage.

Faliol looks up from Nuyok's wounds. He shouldn't leave him, but the timbre of Handle's urgent plea makes up his mind. "Handle, please tourniquet Leckchock's wrist..."

He hurries over to kneel by his Big Sister.

Unused to seeing Celeste, of all people, motionless, Faliol tries to stop the bleeding.

OOC: Per 5th edition rules, I am spending one full phase at each of the following - Nuyok (already done), then Celeste, then Leckchock(if Handle is already working on him, on to Vagrant instead), then Vagrant, then Beka, then Handle.

Faliol says the following soothing words to each person...

Celeste - "We won Big Sister. Throne is finished."
Paramedics 12-
3d6: 13 Fri November 14, 2003 @8:38 AM (CST)
Leckchock - "My fault we took too long to get here. Ricco wanted to go in earlier, I wouldn't let him." (ok, not soothing but honest)
3d6: 16 Fri November 14, 2003 @8:38 AM (CST)
Vagrant - "Paladin's are amazing creatures. He kicked down the front gate AND the front door like we would kick over a basket of dirty linen. Then he killed everything in sight." Moral of this story, don't irate that Paladin.
3d6: 10 Fri November 14, 2003 @8:38 AM (CST)
Miss Beka - "Stop worrying. Healers will be here soon. Handle and I will keep them alive till then. Rath rests in peace now that his murder has been brought low."
3d6: 11 Fri November 14, 2003 @8:38 AM (CST)
Handle - "Your turn, fellow journeyman healer. I didn't know you as well as the others before this fight, but I think I know you now. You did good, my friend."

Vagrant looms into Throne's face and let's his raspy voice seep through his gritted teeth, "Well, Merchant Throne, it seems like the tables have turned a bit and you are now in my power."

He nudges the axe a bit more into Throne's throat and continues, "I think it's finally time that I demand something from you or I may just let you die. So Throne, if you have any healing around this house then I suggest that you give me explicit directions so I can send someone to retrieve them.

Again he pushes the axe at Throne, "I will keep you company. Perhaps, I can keep the survivors of my little caravan from slitting your throat while we wait."

Throne groans, clutching his midsection. He looks as if he might be able to move, but dares not with his one of his own super-weapons pressed against his throat.

There is much he knows that will be very interesting to the High Justice." He walks from you, confident that his order will be obeyed.
He approaches Nuyok. "Faliol, is Master Nuyok mortally wounded?"
At Faliol's reply [insert here], he looks grim. "Do what you can. The vixen Cas has gone for help, has she? She will find it close at hand. Do what you can here to aid your companions, I must make sure this house is receptive for my Master." He leaves the basement.

To his surprise, Faliol discovers that his fur is bristling as Orlando approaches.

"Faliol, is Master Nuyok mortally wounded?"

Counting to three before answering, making darn sure he didn't yip out the warning growl that threatened to errupt from his muzzle, the young kit says "Mr. Orlando, he is badly hurt. Without proper treatment, he may not survive."

Faliol, you quickly realize that you are the only one with any training in caring for wounds who is still ambulatory. (If Handle has them, they must have been bought with XP and aren't on his character sheet.)

As such, the fox moves from person to person, performing a quick triage. He can really do nothing but help to stablize. A true healer will be needed or the three unconscious people will likely die.
Those who can walk are taxed to the limit following his instructions, but it seems pretty hopeless. Leckchock looks like he might survive, but Celeste and Nuyok are growing pale and cold...
After a few minutes, Orlando re-appears at the lip of the pit. He is dripping wet.
"No living man will emerge from that shaft," he says. "Neither was there a Master below. I dove into the black waters but could not follow far without light. If there was a boat tied to the dock, it has gone."
Throne coughs. "Damn coward! Pakkard scuttled. cough Knew he couldn't be trusted."
Orlando looks down at the merchant. "Merchant Throne, I place you under arrest for crimes against the Archony. You will be probed, tried and imprisoned or executed as the High Justice directs."

As her clothing was, um, used to stop Nuyok's bleeding, she will grab anything offered if someone can offer anything as she runs by. Once she is outside she will start screaming bloody murder for the first healer to be found anywhere.

If necessary she will use the following lines:
"Yes I know I'm naked, I had to give up my clothes to save a friend."

"Orlando sent me. He has apprehended a vicious killer at Thrones place."

OOC: This is such a bad and embarrising idea.

Cas, you do not run far from the compound before you run into a man dressed very similar to the Paladin Orlando. He is accompanied by a small company of city guards and some assorted Masters.
In fact, the entourage is so high f station that you are keenly aware of your state of dishabile. The Paladin (you presume), barks, "Halt, beast! What is your bus---"
He does not finish his sentence before you interrupt with, "Orlando sent me. He has apprehended a vicious killer at Throne's place."
A master replies, "He sent you without clothing?" There is a low chuckle. One master, obviously in charge, cuts the laughter short. "Enough. The beast is in distress. Her psyche is nearly riven."
"Cas," he says, "We are on our way to Merchant Throne's compound even now. Come with us, under protection." His voice has an unbelievable calming effect, and his manner is kindly.
"Guardsman Tando, lend her your cloak." A guardsman obeys without hesitation. The cloak is far too large for you, but you cover yourself as best you can while the procession heads toward the mansion.

Everybody please watch visibility. I know I often make mistakes with it, but I'd like to keep the unconscious types in a bit of suspense. I started that limited visibility sub-thread, but it quickly got overwhelmed. Nuyok, Leckchock and Celeste are unconscious.
Faliol, your skills are not enough, they are dying. The injuries are too deep and severe. Even Vagrant and Beka require professional treatment. At least they are not spilling their red fluid faster that you can stop it. Riccoco returns from upstairs with fairly clean curtains for bandages. Vagrant's offer of his spirit cloak is appreciated but not necessary.
Now you have curses, direct pressure and bandages to work with.

The basement gradually quiets down as the untended dying barbarians finish their exits from this life.

Finally, after what seems like hours but really couldn't be more than a few minutes, Orlando returns. "High Justice Rakeen!" he announces. Directly on his heels follows a full entourage. The basement is flooded with lumina light as a number of adepts, another paladin, a full contingent of city guards and a vixen wearing a cloak many sizes too large descend the staircase.

Orlando indicates Nuyok. "The fallen Tallonite Master is over there. Others will need your skills as well." A small team of healers converge upon Nuyok. After a moment's consultation, they split up and examine the fallen. It takes some explanation before they understand that the Red Tide barbarian and the forest man are not servants of Throne. They are removed from the basement. Jonnit is also removed.

The most impressive looking Master introduces himself as Rakeen. He is dark of skin with greyed temples and a large hawk-like nose. His voice has an odd reassuring effect, that nearly demands assent. "Well, an interesting evening to be sure. Do not worry for your companions. If they can be saved, they shall be. They are being taken to the Ward of Chthon.* They shall be released when they are healed. The injuries were quite severe. Others of you that need healing can be attended to later."
He turns to Throne, who is now standing, flanked by Orlando and the other Paladin. "Throne, you stand accused of selling spirit weapons to the enemies of Adala. Keeping in mind that your psyche shall be read in any case, how do you plead?"
Throne stares at the High Justice. "Rakeen. Why are you--" Comprehension dawns. "I see. That's the way it is. You hang me out to dry and all my goods revert to the Archony. Minus a hefty finder's fee, eh?"
Orlando's companion spins Throne around and gives him a backhand slap that knocks teeth from his mouth. "Show the respect due your betters, prisoner!" Throne groans but remains silent.
Rakeen sighs. "Take him away."

*Chthon = "thone"

Faliol gladly lets the professional healers do their work.

When asked questions, he answers - quickly.

While they are readying the wounded for transport, he picks up the weapons of his injured friends and any other belongings they dropped during the battle.

He hands some of these to Ricco. "Thanks for those bandages. I forgot to ask, did you get injured? One of us should stay with the wounded, another should go find Jareek and Kent to let them know what happened. Your choice."

Faliol slumps, noticing his own wound - minor in comparison to what his friends have suffered.

"Ricco, I thought I was tired before. I never knew the meaning of the word before now..."

The 'coon grins nervously, hoping to be ignored in the press. He tries to slip from the cellar with a few parting words to Faliol. "Ol Ricco will be letting the other folk know..."

As he skulks away, he can't help but watch from the stair as his friends and companions are loaded onto litters.

The door into the kitchen is guarded by two large guards. One of them says firmly, but not harshly, "Sorry, Mister Raccoon. Everyone on this site is a guest of the High Justice until further notice." They will actively seek to prevent anyone not under Rakeen's command from leaving.

Rakeen notices the denial. As a matter of fact, there is precious little he does not notice. "My apologies for this treatment, for it is possible you have performed a service whilst exacting your vengeance. I am afraid I must insist that all here remain under observation until a full investigation is made. As of yet, I have only the side told to me by Tallonite Merchant Kent and his servant Jareek, as well as the testimony of Guardsman Melkut."

Jornu picks up his head (he has been released by now). "M-melkut's alive?"

Rakeen answers, "Ah, he thought you dead as well. There may be promotions in this matter.
"Until then, I see no reason you should be guests in this dank room. If I have your pledges that you will wait here until released, you may have the use of the far nicer quarters on the second floor."

He gazes at each of you in turn as he makes this request, and his glance is deep and penetrating.

If you are entertaining any thoughts at all of not complying, please let me know (privately if you wish), since Rakeen has a very good chance of detecting any subterfuge.

Making himself look small and craven, he clears his throat.

"High Justice Rakeen, we have people out there.." waves a paw towards the front gates "...that need to know our status. Merchant Hamilton and Trader Kent may have customers that need notification that we will be delayed. My sire, Jareek, is no doubt overcome with worry. The people that own the shacks may think we skipped out without settling up. I don't know all the particulars."

If Faliol has yet to be bludgeoned by the other Paladin, he takes a deep breath and continues.

"...Sir, I request that one of us, Mr. Riccoco, be allowed to travel to all the interested parties and notify them of our status. I am sure that he will promise to return in short order. Would this be acceptable, your High Justiceship?"
