The ceremony is farther for some than for others. It takes place in front of the Manor house, between the inn and the church.

Lekchock, Beka, Celeste and Cas can follow the procession from the Columbia as they lead Mistress Sasha along the road up the hill. She has an honor guard of soldiers in dress armor. There is a trumpeter among them who blows and answering note to the one by the manor.
Beka remembers that the cal and answer is somehow symbolic of the stones calling adepts from the wilderness to found the Great Cities and communicates as much. Back at the feast site, Brother Cadbury relates the same information to those assembled who are likewise unfamiliar with the ways of the Stone Folk.
Nuyok perhaps watches discreetly from a distance? In any case, he is nowhere to be seen.

Eventually, the entourage arrives. There is a brief interchange of fanfares and she approaches the gate to the manor house, where Commander Mako awaits. The grizzled veteran bows low and hands to her a ring of keys and his sword--scabbard and all, hilt-first. She takes the keys graciously and after touching it to her brow, buckles the sword incongruously to her own person.

Mistress Sasha herself is an older woman. She is lean and spare, with a face showing lines of much experience. Though dressed in finery, she looks ill-at-ease in it. Her expression is serious and somewhat austere, while her posture is standing stone straight.

Tall Father Jeo says a short blessing and anoints her, touching her temples, hands and heart with his lumina, which is set in the square-circle-triangle of Promethean faith.

Mistress Sasha then opens the gates to the manor and then turns to the crowd.
"Greetings soldiery, citizens and guests. It is my intention to leave this gate unlocked. Let any who have grievance or need come to me for council."

There is polite, but sincere applause.

"This fort has stood for several generations, enduring seige and growing in prosperity. It is my intention that it should again resume those duties for which it was built. The road between Adala and Tallon is the oldest trade road in the League, if not the wide world. My gracious order of our most revered Archon, I have been given the authority to strengthen the garrison and to coordinate efforts between our great Cities to repair and rebuild the road. There shall once again be guard posts on the roads. Sanctuaries shall be founded or rebuilt that were destroyed decades ago. Though it will doubtless take years to accomplish, the Lizard Road will be reclaimed from the jungle and made a highway upon which goods may travel freely."

After a moment of surprised silence, there is more applause, louder and harder than before.

"And finally, since I am not really one for long speeches, let us eat."

There is considerable enthusiasm as people begin to seat themselves at the long benches. The fare is good. Tallon Redbean and rice, with cakes of firm brown bread. There is a quantity of cheese from Boothia, baked fish from the Inlet and watered wine and ale. Doom stands apart, glowering pointedly at the primary offenders from last night's debacle. He needn't; the atmosphere is far less raucous and more respectable than the drunken brawl.

With the exception of Nuyok and various members of the ship crews and fort garrison (including the Master of the Columbia), all the PCs and NPCs are present and available for conversation.

Celeste looks up when Cas mentions THE book. "You may as well tell her. Enough people died because of it, and if we don't tell her, someone else will. This is a place for the telling of many tales, some of which, I am sure, will grow with the telling and re-telling." And then she looks at Cas realizing that Cas actually remembered something. "You didn't forget Cas."

"I know I remembered it," Cas says, "but I don't remember much beyond that now. I remember a bit about the last time we were here only because I can still feel the sword in me."

After a moment, "I'll wait until after the dinner. This is not the place to mention such things. Stories told in front of a crowd carry a different purpose than those told in private. And if I'm lucky, this one won't try to kill me."

Your assumption would be that the sale of any alcohol would probably be regulated on a military base. Innkeeper Jame almost certainly has some sort of license and would likely be required to follow strong guidelines. Ie, report drunkenness, refuse to sell to on-duty soldiers, not allow any spirits to be consumed off-premises. That sort of thing. Also, yes, Shado would definitely take notice of it. (Positive or Negative, you don't know.)

Change Shape
By: Nuyok

Viewable By: Nuyok, TheGM
Nuyok is interested in trying to change shape during the downtime to adjust his outward appearance to avoid possible notice by typical Tallon guards.

But we probably need to figure out what #s that would require. He has an 8- familiarity with the skill, and 8D6 of manipulate morphia. Base time for a transform is one year? Which means there are two sliding scales, one for the transform to take effect, and one for the time spent to effect the transfer (e.g., like how he takes longer to heal)? And each of which can be adjusted by adjusting the die roll needed for success?

Presumably it would be easy to take an hour to try this (+5), it is himself (+2 from the chart), overall similarity (+3), but then minuses for the power used to change (-2 for 4-5 dice, which on average is more than enough for a cosmetic change to Nuyok based on his BODY/Morphia), and minuses to reduce the transform time from one year (no book handy and the SE time chart only goes to a week, would it be -5 to make it take 5 hours to transform?), did I miss any other modifiers? The #s above would give him an 11-, unless I forgot something.

Revised blue box rules

I'm going to go with the revised rules (the ones in the blue box)

Base Time 1 phase

Base Roll =8-
Subject is self +2 (10-)
No Morhic Template, ie. you're making up a new appearnce wholecloth), -3 (7-)
Using five dice -2 (5-)

Using Extra Time
1 hour, +5 (10-)
or 6 hours, +6 (11-)

If you decide to copy someone's morphia to some degree, that is to look more like them, you can raise this to +3 (14-). This would requie their presence during the procedure.

Your call. All END is long term for recovery.

Your morphia score is actually 14 (from adjusted Body) + 2 (Average DEF) = 16. If you were desperate to reduce this score you could drop the lines on your enhancements and lower your morphia to 10.

Nuyok catches Vagrant's eye while they are eating, and asks "So, we are nearing the end of our journey, and I wondered about your plans once we reach Tallon? And relatedly, as we have learned more of you, it seems you have some ancient knowledge, but have you found anything in our journey that shows where you are compared to the ancient world? Are we anywhere near the legendary city of my namesake?"

Vagrant, you have yet to see a map of this crazy world. You would assume you are somewhere in North America, but the general fauna and language. Lots of raccoons, otters, gators, possums and such.

"Well, I hoping to sell these damned posters! It's like I am trying to sell fake Leonardos or something. After that I am unsure. My ideas of this world and my purpose in it have come in to question a number of times. I think I need to dwell on that a bit to see where it takes me. If the caravan were to stay together I may offer my help...whatever that would be. From what I can tell I am nowhere near the place I remembered from the 21st Century. That is in itself a mystery. Given the chance I would like to return to the place I had my last job. It saved my life due to the technology there and allowed me to awaken here in your world. While this place has horrified me at times I am greatful to not be dead."

Kent says, "Maps? I suppose there must be some in the Hall of Art. And most ship captains would have a set of charts. The Book tells us that the War of the Demon Kings and the Prometheans set the world upon its side, whatever that means."
Jareek looks up sharply. "Upon its side? Ridiculous I'm sayin'. We'd fall off!" There is some polite laughter among the more educated at the table. Kent whispers into the fox's frry ear. He gives a pitying look to the city dweller. "Craziest thing I ever heard. Round? Really. Why doesn't anyone tell me these things?" He still looks suspiciously about, as if someone's pulling his hindquarters.

As the people sit around at their ease, taking in the food and the entertainment (musicians have begun to play), one of the two unidentified merchants approaches Beka.
"Pardon me, Miss. I understand from a few people here that you have silks available for sale? I am headed towards Adala, where I might be ablet o fetch a decent price. Would you be interested in discussing a trade or sale of some sort?"
He is a non-descript man, but clean and well-dressed. He has a bodyguard with him, a wiry scrapper whose eyes seem constantly alert.

He nods, "I'd be happy to peruse your wares. But let us do it after lunch but before dinner. I leave in the morning and I would like to see them in good strong daylight."
He gives a slight bow and returns to his normal seat.
The others take a bit of heart in the potential of profit. Though the amount might be less than would have been made could you have stayed in Adala longer, it's better than having to carry and protect them back through the jungle. Mentioning this brings Kent around to the topic a hand.
"The others have a point. We must discuss how we are going to leave. Myself, I'm ready to take the boat. It would mean a cut in profits, but I'm tired of the risk. I'm not sure I was cut out for this kind of life."
He glances at Faliol and Jareek. "But I don't think I could afford the cut taken cargo charges and two additional fares. I spent my discretionary funds on the bonus back in Adala. So I suppose I'll take the road."
This is actually fairly decent of him, since your realize he is also intending to pay the two foxes for Scouting rather than leave them at the fort to pick up other work, a fairly common practice for scouts, human or beast.
Angilak expresses his own opinion, "Though I leave all business decisions ultimately to my esteemed diminutive partner, I know but little of the adepts aboard this spirit vessel. Unknown is a euphemistic synonym for untrusted, in my long and illustrious experience. So therefore, if our transportational problems can find speedy remedy, I cast such vote as I have vote toward the jungle road, with its inherent, but comparatively honest dangers."
"What he said." says Jareek. Though the older fox along with Kent gazes longingly in the direction the swift and comfortable ride anchored down by the docks.

Kent says, "The Columbia lifts anchor and churns at daybreak. What do we vote?"

KentKent looks very relieved. He obviously has been over his head in the danger department throughout the trip. A simple day's journey back by boat is a far better alternative.
"Thank you. Thank you all. I don't know what to say. I'm sorry I can't do more for you Faliol and Jareek. I'll pay you what I can for the trip from Adala to the fort, of course. I, uh, I suppose I'd better go talk to the River Master."

"You could not sell these? I am surprised. What is wrong with them? Or was your asking price too high, perhaps?"

Critical success on Beka's trading roll! She makes her contest by a total of 10, while her opponent scores a very respectable 9. Still, making your roll by a natural, unadjusted 10 qualifies for Extraordinary Skills
The caravan members watch in awe. Beka's opponent is very wily and shrewd, but not only does she manage to hold her own, she actually manages to talk him into a higher price than she originally quoted! It takes hours, but eventually the merchant takes his leave. His arms are laden with bundles and his face bears a puzzled look of disbelief. After a quick trip to the Manor House to notarize the transaction, a letter of credit is issued for $1100 against the merchant's accounts in Tallon.

This eats up most of the day.

"Might as well discuss it now, I can't get in a better mood. Is over here private enough or do we need to go inside?" Beka looks serious but happy.

Nuyok looks around to make sure no one other than party members are present or in hearing distance.

"It would become public soon enough anyway, so no need for privacy, plus I may need Lekchock's assistance." Nuyok pauses, glances toward Lekchock, and continues. "When we return to Tallon, when we are in the vicinity and the caravan is safe, I will need to part ways to accompany Ricco, but will rejoin everyone soon after at a location that you predetermine. Since the caravan should be in a very safe location, I presume that should not be a problem..."

As Faliol and Jareek leave to help Kent speak with the Rivermaster, the merchant pulls Riccoco aside. "Come with me; I have a proposition for you."
As you walk along he says, "I know you are lacking a cart after that incident in the woods. I assume you'll eventually have to replace it for your partner, but listen. I have to pay money for transporting cargo. I'd rather not have to pay for the cart and horse as well. I'm proposing to loan you my cart for the road trip. You can return it in Tallon. You still have a horse, of course. I'm thinking about loaning mine to Brother Cadbury. What do you think?"

Fighting to ward off the emphatic reaction to Kent's offer, Rico takes a deep breath to steady himself while twirling the whiskers of his grinning muzzle, "It be soundin' a fine offer, Merchant Kent..." He pauses to share a knowing nod with Jareek and Faliol. "Be one o' those propositions to suit both parties, no doubt."

Faliol patted the plucky 'coon on the back. "See? I told you it would all work out..."
