Two thoughts:
1) I believe this may be the first time I have ever voted for a presidential candidate who actually won. I'm one for six!
2) This is the first president in living memory that I am actually inspired by and excited about. I do have realistic expectations on what he will actually be able to accomplish. It is a hundred times harder to build than to destroy, but I do feel that there is the capacity to restore a lot of the things that were lost in the last 8 years.
OK, three thoughts:
3) This is not the end of divisiveness, unfortunately. I had the election results via cell phone from my wife during our barbershop singing rehearsal last night. By and large these guys are retirees, conservative and many of them ex-military. The level of disbelief in a McCain loss was almost (almost) humorous. I can understand being disappointed, but totally surprised? The denial was palpable.
On the other hand, there will probably be joyous singing and dancing at my church this Sunday, which is about as liberal as a church can possibly be.
I fall somewhere in between.
