"A game that privatizes profit but socializes risk." If I hear one more time a politician use the term “Joe Sixpack” I will hurl. Besides being condescending, it is demeaning, glib and makes the common denominator of the American citizenry is a beerswilling hick. Can we drop these sound-bites-in-place-of-speech terms? It makes the user sound like a quacking puppethead. We can [...] Well, it's been a while since I posted. I wanted to talk about Australia and post some of the pictures we took as soon as we returned, but it's taken a while for life to resume normalcy. The girls have started school again, and that means I have a bit more unstructured time within [...] Well, the Australia trip starts with a call at 2:45 am to tell us our flight has been delayed three hours. So now we're up. Instead of rushing like mad to the ferry, now we're dawdling. There's not enough time to start any projects, and not enough time to finish anything either. She did ask a question that few asked, almost [...] I’ve written here before about the Harry Potter-styled curriculum/program I have devised for our Religious Education class here at the local UU church. This weekend, as an extracurricular activity, we hosted an overnight stay at the church. What a rousing success! The most popular event was a real-life quidditch tournament. The kids got to [...] And another. This is Star of the County Down, a traditional Irish tune. This is one of the first pieces I learned to play on the guitar. I played around with Garage Band on this one, and added one of the vocal filters. This one adds a slight echo. I think it's “Male Rock [...] This song is by the vastly under-appreciated Leslie Fish. Leslie is One of Us, a gamer, and SF/Fantasy fan from way back in the 70's. This particular song is called Fellowship Going South, which is enough to give you the context.Edit: The first line is “What is Courage [now]” and that's what I mistakenly [...] |
